Adding WiFi extender to current powerline setup?

Can anyone tell me which WiFi extender works with my current TP Link Nano AV500 setup. I currently have it so 1 is plugged in directly beside the router and the other is in my office. I'd now like to add a wifi powerline adapter to the otherside of the house to extend the wifi range.

Would I be able to get something like THIS and plug it in to a spare socket at the otherside of my house and have it 'draw' the internet from the current powerline adapter setup? Are they compatible with each other is my question?

No, that's a standard WiFi Extender which will take an existing WiFi signal and retransmit it, what you're looking for is a WiFi Powerline Extender like this one ...

Can I get the cheaper AV200 version on that link too?

Is that the cheapest option to work with what I want?

I don't think so. I think it's a bit like WiFi where if you mix standards, the whole network defaults to the lowest common denominator, so the whole network would drop to 200Mbit/s.

Ita much of a muchness as they sre just signalling rate figures, you'll usually only get up to 100mb throughput.

Well I only have 7mb at the moment and won't be using the wifi extender for video streaming or file tranfer so just want the cheapest option that will provide wifi to the blackspot in my house and that's compatible with my current powerline adapters.

If the AV200 in that link is it, then so be it!

Assuming you trust the superuser community(I tend to, they're mostly right), then go for the 200. Should be perfect.

I was always under the impression that it was a bit like mixing 802.11 g and n clients in a WiFi network in that speed was reduced to that of the slowest clients, as the technologies are broadly similar, and many of the Google results I came up with seem to support that idea too. I have all identical units (devolo 650+) so can't confirm one way or the other.

I had thought so too, so it may be the case. Even if it is, the OP wont see any degradation.

**** it, I think I'll just go with the AV200. The fact it has 2 extra ethernet ports as well as being a wifi hotspot make it worth the extra few euro. I'll confirm back here once I receive it that it all works alright. Thanks for your help, I appreciate it!
