Karina draws her game; fairly level in the last. Still plenty of play in it though. 1½-1½ at the moment.

Nice attack going for Sam now.

what is the final tally of the irish team ????????????????????????

  • Registered Users Posts: 411 ✭✭brianhere

Not over yet, 1-1 so far with Collins and Lopez playing and either could win with Collins in particular pegging back his opponent.
His opponent is now saccing a pawn to get some oxygen here but the computer doesn't like it.

Sam about to win significant material. Should be 2-1 soon.

Collins is threatening to kill the bishop to get the pin with the knight, i dont know what your man can do to stop this.

Yep, the king cannot move anywhere and the bishop cannot go anywhere where he isn't taken. I agree Collins should win now.

It's looking good! Sam should win and Lopez looking like a draw or better, we should win the match.

Yes if they swap rooks it will surely be a draw for Lopez and Sam to win. So thats 2 1/2 to 1 1/2 to us.

No swap - Alex is playing for the win, though the computer doesn't like it...

Yes he is now but I think it was his opponent who refused to swap, I think he should have he could lose yet and could hardly win.

No, Alex could have swapped on move 69 for the draw, now he's in fierce trouble..

Alex is doing great now, He might even win.

Collins will pick up a pawn now with some nice knight moves, well ahead and his perfectly safe..

Oops.. I too was looking at the board upside-down... My bad :P

Only real issue is whether either player will bail out for the draw in time trouble. With increments, that seems less likely though.

Doubled pawns can be good defenders in the kind of endings Alex has, but I think he still has enough for the win. Have given up trusting the computer in the endings!

The computer has Lopez 1.9 ahead and winning. But don't put your faith in that computer evaluation!

Nerve wracking stuff for Collins though, one false move and the pawn gets down.

To put it another way - the computer is plain wrong.

Pawn to d2, then if Rook takes, King takes and Knight to f1 forking the King and Rook. Pawns then walk home. (on black's move 77)

Yes I saw that - evetually! - but still it must be tense at the end of a tournament like this to let that pawn get so far...
Well anyway Lopez can end up with a clean one pawn up I guess? But doubtfull if he could win with that...

Sam's game is an easy win. He can always give back the knight and end up a completely winning rook and pawn ending as blacks king is so far away.

  • Registered Users Posts: 382 ✭✭macelligott

Lopez game will be drawn despite what the computer says

  • Registered Users Posts: 411 ✭✭brianhere

Yes i agree, its simplified now and whites pawns are ready to roll if need be, Sam should win soon.

Its amazing that Lopez's opponent can now get one of his pawns if he wants to, that cannot be good for us can it?

Sam wins; computer now agrees Lopez' position is drawn.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 7,170 Mod ✭✭✭✭cdeb

Kuwait v Netherlands Antilles board 3 - we got us a bishop and knight versus king ending. :)

    Only nine games left now.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,027 ✭✭✭Ficheall

    Draw agreed on Lopez' game.

A nice finish to the tournament.

  • Registered Users Posts: 411 ✭✭brianhere

So we win this match 2 1/2 1 1/2. Well done anyways to all concerned, all the players and the captain who I think was just the man for that job.
