    I never thought Imd appreciate electric windows as much. Have been in a work caddy the last few days with windy windows man there some pain. And for some reason I've been pulling up and down the window more often than I normally do probably the lack of a/c. Not a bad van other then that I'd certainly prefer them to berlingos and connects. Speaking of connects I was In one of them another work one and there some dog of a van not very quick or comfortable and that 1.8 is so unbelievably loud.

    Yeah the brother has one. They are cheap to be fair and less of a gamble than the ubiquitous 1.6 HDI

    I had a 2006 Caddy DSG with windy windows too. They're nice but ffs, I'd expect electric windows as standard on all VWs bar the Fox by 2006.

    My daily hack atm currently has no functioning electric windows at all. They're stuck shut!

    This one is 2005. It's kind of something you'd just expect it to have alright. They have a 2010 one and that's a really nice van infairness electric windows, nicer dash and newer type radio. Sdi though although there not as bad as you'd think the 1.8 tdci connect is far worse no power at all and is extremely hard on diesel.

    Some might remember I had a Fiesta for a little bit. I put it through the NCT. Failed on some niggly little bits; spare wheel in the boot not the undercarriage and needed to tidy my wiring for my triple tone horns are some I remember.

    It also failed on a small leak from the gearbox. Which had me puzzled, as it was a new box. But then it dawned on me that had happened: slave cylinder failed.

    The part was €103 from Ford so a bit sticky and had the newer redesign so the pipe was altered to fit. To change it means..... Engine out and box off (anyone who has worked on a mk4/5 festy will know how tight room is between the box and subframe, thus it was quicker for me to whip the whole unit out)

    Leak solved, just about a days work :D

    The Merc I now drive has the same type of slave cylinder, clutchless changes galore for me. I dread taking that box out as I don't have a lift/pit to do the job... It's a c*nt to do a rwd box without suitable lifting!!! :(

    It was crawling that it waa being overtaken by everything and was not using any lights or nothing.

    Must be tight on the juice !

    Don't suppose we have a hire car review thread?
    I've got a new Clio tce 90 Eco on loan.

    When I picked it up I had no idea what engine it had other than it was petrol.
    This is a 3cyl 900cc turbo. It's got an over boost function too.
    Feels a bit diesel like to drive, there's a dollop of power in the mid range.
    I didn't find it very comfortable to drive in stop start traffic, the gearing is extra high in this Eco model making it hard to match to the power band.

    Once it's gets rolling it storms along nicely, but then sort of runs out of puff at the top end of each gear.

    Before I knew what the engine was I defined it as, no power, loads of power, too much power, done, when taking off from a junction.
    Would love to see a power curve for this, quite a roller coaster engine.
    Great little car though. Have it for a week so wonder will I get used to the motor.

    We had that on loan there a while back, and I would agree with the bolded sentiments. However I felt it was totall gutless throughout the rev range.

    Did one in my old Bravo, including a high lift cam swap, in less than 3 hours from blown gasket to fully running again including tools out and tools in

    That, was a water drainage cover i do believe its called, they are known to rust a bit, but my god! :eek:

    I doubt any of you missed me but I've not been around here much over the last while. What scandal have I missed :p:p

    For the first time since I got the Primera I've been doing proper Diesel milage. I've averaged about 500 miles a week over the last 4 or so weeks I've been in the country. It's ability to just keep going and going with no fuss whatsoever always impresses me. When I drive it I never get the "what was that noise" or "did it always do that" that I always felt in the Levin. It just keeps pounding on carrying me, people and things in comfort. Couldn't recommend one enough on a vert tight budget. :)

    Speaking of, by running it over the last 5 or so months, I've saved up enough that I think I might be finding myself in a new car soon. I just can't wait to get back into something powered by proper fuel! Only 2 out of the 5 daily drivers here are petrol at the moment :(. Not really sure what I'm going to get yet… but I have been driving an A3 a fair bit recently. Though I don't really like VW every time I drive one I can see why people do like them. The problem I have with them is that they are (for the most part, or at least the ones with "normal" engines) very good at everything but excellent at nothing. Coming from the Primera, a 1.6 A3 feels like a rocket ship! It's also nice not having to listen to diesel clatter, and the gear change is very nice, and the steering has nice enough feel. No where near as comfortable though, but you can't win. The budget won't stretch to an S3 by a long way but I'm thinking a 1.8t A4 might be quick enough for me. Anyway the thought process has begun.:)

    My car is making a bizarre farting sound when I start it up in the morning.

    It does it's normal startup noise then a giant belch/fart noise, and occasionally happens when stopped and moving slowly in traffic and changing gear.

    It's coming from the back of the car.

    Is it:
    1. Hole in exhaust?
    2. Issue with airflow
    3. Something I have not thought of?

    It's a very loud and distinctive noise, nearly gave me a heart attack first time it happened

    Master cylinder appears to be gone, rang the mechanic and he said the common problem on 207s is some cylinder at the gearbox side which involves taking the gearbox out :eek:

    The master cylinder on my clutch that is on the pedal went, mechanic thought he fixed it, but the fecker is gone again, one of our alfisti posters has the part thankfully.

    I in the meantime have become adept at gear changes in first and second which involve an extra maneouvre to hoike the pedal up, (mine is such that a spring or something is gone on the pedal, so I can hoike it up)

    I got test driving a 10 Avensis D4D earlier tonight :) extensive detailed research of wikipedia reveals I was driving the 2.0D, with 125 unicorns under the bonnet :cool:

    Build quality is superb, not a rattle or a squeak. Reliability must be somewhat superior to the predecessors, as you don't see these in scrapyards much, which couldn't be said for the predecessor, where significantly more of the same aged vehicles were a common and still are frequent in my local breakers (he hasn't one of these and he is a Toyota dismantler (that's right, I get the bulk of my spare parts from a Toyota breakers.....!)). I saw no rust, which can't be said for even the year old Sprinter vans, which look like brown swiss cheese after a few years :eek:

    I get handed the keys to a 10 D Avensis in black with a garda spec reg. My first question was why was I handed the key to a Yaris as well as this car but I was reassured that it was the spare key. With the key in and turning to start, I was met with a nice orange dash, with a barrage of numbers and letters I couldn't understand. I was also confused on how to de-activate the handbrake, but when I was shown it's location and that driving off would disengage it, all was all good. Thus I began to move, when a sudden jolt gave me shivers up my nono mentions :eek: but, it was only the door locks activating after just a few metres and a certain speed. Lovely touch :cool:

    I wasn't impressed with the flat performance, full boot of my right boot resulted in a scenario similar to PE, but you would be correct in saying that coming from the 406, everything else in that segment is a huge let down. But to cruise at a nice safe sensible speed, it is a miser on dayyysel, with a smug grin on the owners face with chape tax at €280 a year! That engine sound, whilst un-noticeable at sensible rpm's, did remind me of an old retired cat being harassed when opened up ie a bit pissed it's being poked with a stick. But a lovely shift light is provided to remind the driver when to change gear, a nice touch. So for cruising, it's eventless and reassuring :)

    There was a strange wind noise at motorway speeds, but apart from that you don't notice much while sitting up in the seats. I wasn't happy with the seats, parts stuck in my backside and hips that made me feel uncomfortable, like I was in the George. The position reminded me somewhat of the IH 574 I was only operating earlier today to collect some shopping. When the air con was activated, it was like pointing a hair drier at your face, only it was very cold. So if it's blistering outside, chill inside :cool:

    Brakes are traditional Toyota ie you will go through the windscreen but sure it's nice to know they will work extremely well when needed. The speed bump test was fantastic, with decent ground clearance you can approach those sleeping garda at the current limit and those shocks will soak up the bumps, with no bouncing. Bliss :D however, cornering with the high performance Runway tyres left a lot to be desired and resulted in a feeling similar to sea sickness. It likes to lean when cornering hard, but for that comfortable soaking of bumps and discarded pringles tubes I won't complain :cool:

    For a 4 year old car, the electric seats didn't work (it was at the lowest setting and all, what kind of shortarse would you have to be to need to raise the seat up?), the pleather centre arm rest was flappy, the gearknob shiny (and I turned it arseways to face me just because :p ). Opening the bonnet, no lifts did catch me off guard (ba dum tish!) and revealed a plethora of black plastic covering, as black as Walt Disneys heart. I became puzzled on how to change a bulb, thus I came to the conclusion a hammer was needed to carefully remove the covers but sure, they never blow bulbs now do they ;) Opening the guillotine boot revealed a modest sized boot, but under the cover revealed a puny wheel and a horrible hospital smell which made me recoil in anguish :eek:

    However, shouting "ah biyyyys dya's fail yer leaavin cert" or "if the pub won't let you in, I'll let you in the back door of me TEA-OAT-EEEEEE and you do the same for me hai" at the locals who frequent the town did get some serious laughs. So for you young folk out to buy a new car on finance, it is quite the bird puller :p

    So, whilst I wasn't happy with a few characteristics, it's a thumbs up from me for the average john handwash on the road. Ticks all the right boxes for all the cost cutting reasons :)

    Your clutch master cylinder is gone. I feel sorry for whoever has to change it. It's location makes it a pig of a job and that was with the engine out.

    I think its only the lumbar support that's electric on those Avensii dgt.
