When was the last time you were outraged at a stupid charge?

When was the last time someone tried to charge you for something you thought would be free?

We were in a large Dublin shopping centre yesterday with the kids. Decided to have smoothies all round as a treat, they are pricey enough, but they're tasty :)

Anyway, spent the guts of 18 euro on 2 large, and 2 kids smoothies. The youngest (nearly 2) decided she didn't want her smoothie, said she didn't like hers and insisted she wanted mine.

I headed back to the smoothie stand, asked your one there for a small plastic cup so I could pour some of mine info it for the baby.

    "50cent" she said.

I basically told her that I was after handing her a twenty euro note for a few non alcoholic drinks, from which I got very little change.

    "That's our policy" she said.

I asked to see the manager, she replied she was the manager.

Told her I'd never be back there.

    Any similar tales?

A well known coffee place that charge extra for cream and marshmallow on a hot chocolate.

    €18 for four smoothies?
You deliberately chose to pay that. No wonder prices are so high if people keep paying them.

Your child is not decisive enough, you should probably go do something about that.

15 cent surcharge for a fiver top up.

    Go fúck yourself.

20 cent for ketchup in the Hi Burger in Wilton. Not extra ketchup, just ketchup. What a joke.

I'm not complaining about the price of the smoothies.

Im complaining at the manager trying to charge me an extra fifty cent for a tiny, see through, clear plastic cup. (Which I chose not to pay for as i thought it wasnt worth it)

    What's your point:confused:

I went the chippy last week, spent €23 on a large meal and a small meal for me and my sister. She asked if we could eat in the car instead of at home, so I asked for a few sachets of ketchup to go with it. They said sure, for €3.50

got charged for a salt on a night out.. all i did was hit the cunt but the judge was having none of it

    160 for a TV licence

I didn't pay, got away with it and eventually got a summons. The judge fined me 140 euro and I thought I was smart

But that cost me a half day annual leave from work to attend court so yeah it cost me in the end :(

Everything about that place is annoying. Their prices are high so their margins must be huge but the staff look like they go straight back to a dungeon when their shift finishes. Miserable. I always feel like I'm sponsoring some underworld crime syndicate the very rare time the kids persuade me to spend money there.

I buy odd and hard to get stuff for companies as a big part of what we do. A client rang me looking for 4 cigarette lighters the other day, to see if I could source them. They gave me the brand and model etc that they wanted. I was thinking maybe €20 - €40.....nope, a shade under €2000.00. Feck me. Electric, safety cigarette lighters. Who knew? I thought that was steep. Someones cleaning up.

Last sat I went with the missus and the kid to a Chinese restaurant in Blanch. I didnt expect anything spectacular, but ffs:

    - there was a totally pi55ed trio acting really disgracefully. By the time we realised how bad they are, we've already ordered food, etc. Anyway - disgusting show and nothing was done about it.

    - the waitress gave me not what I have ordered. I asked them to replace it which they did... Just to mess up again. I wanted a damn DUCK IN A PLUM SAUCE!!! IS IT SO HARD TO UNDERSTAND???

    - the food was of average quality and the service was quite poor, nothing special anyway

We were given the bill so I handed them my card and paid, then we left just to get away from the place. I then realised that they charged me 10€ extra "service charge". It was my child's birthday and I decided to let it go but I was raging inside. Never again, good luck with the business lads.

Went to carphone warehouse to get my SIM changed (snipped) into a micro SIM. They wanted €2 for it. Not a chance. Went to the meteor store and they did it for free.

Got charged 500 Hungarian Forints (€1.50) for a pint of Kronenbourg in Budapest.

Got outraged that it would cost me about €5.20 in Ireland.

    Got hammered.

Getting charged 20cent every time I used my bank card pissed me off.

    I left the bank

Did I hear on the radio recently that it was now 38cent?

A 95c charge on top of €20.00 phone credit. Only some shops do this, but I see no reason for it. I know 95c is a pittance, in comparison to other charges listed here, but still, it seems pointless to me.

Hospital parking charges get me every time.

Our local restaurant does a deal on Sundays where every main course is €10 for a couple of hours. Great for us as a family of five when we want a treat. We were there yesterday and they've changed it so that you have to order a drink with every order to get the €10 deal. What would have usually cost us €50 (plus a tip of course) when we all had water is now nearer €70 because we had to order soft drinks/juices. Can't afford to be going back there too often now.
