Imagine it. The middle of the night, you're sleeping in your bed, when you're woken up by a burglar in your room with a baseball bat. The burglar threatens you.

Maybe your young daughter is asleep in the next room.

You don't have a gun near your bed.

    Imagine it.

Now imagine if you did have a gun near your bed.

Would you rather have a gun or not have a gun in that situation?

The Poll question is and the main question of this post is Would you like to have a gun?

    Imagine there's no heaven.

    It's easy if you try.

I'd rather have a baseball. It would confuse the sh!te out of the intruder. I would throw 3 strikes and he would be out of there.

If i could have a gun, there's a chance so could the intruder.

So yes. We could have a shoot out in the house.

There's a gun at home, it's heavy though, I think it'd be better to bash someone with the end of it than shoot them

    No.

He's a bit of a thick burglar if he goes into your bedroom and wakes you up :pac:

I'd be too pistorius to have a gun and couldn't trust myself with it.
Although I'd be the one most at risk.

Guns are an uncivilised weapon. I prefer to shoot with a bow before charging down the stairs with a sword.

its very easy to say yes id rather have a gun.. but using it to shoot some one is a different story.. i reckon most would freeze up if they had to point blank shoot someone intruding in their house.

I don't think home invasions are the place to practice your archery skills. Your more likely to be found strangled by your own bow than to actually hit an intruder I'd say

If you are gojng to pull a gun on an intruder (aka Home invader) then you should be prepared to use it.
I would not fancy having the memory of shooting someone stuck in my head and the mess of their blood all over the bedroom.
But if I was wealthy and at risk of a tiger type kidnapping then probably yes, I would like one.

Yes I would like to have a gun but the chance of an intruder breaking into my house with CCTV cameras fully alarmed doors and windows and all windows locked as well as sensor activated security lights is extremely unlikely.

I would like a gun, but the thought of other people having guns scares me

No I wouldn't. There's a distinct chance that the gun could could be used against me.

Yes I would. But then I know I could be trusted to have a gun.

Would I like everyone to have a gun?
Absolutely not. And if that means I can't have a gun either then that's cool with me.

Ya sorry I'm on my phone.

Same. Poll needs a " Yea, I got'z me a piece, an I ain't afraid to pop a cap in yo ass" option. I only have an old shotgun, but me and some magpies have our own little turf war going on.

Wouldn't interest me at all. I've never shot a gun and hopefully never will.

I rather stick with my crow bar. It's more personal that way :D

Had a shotgun but gave it to the guards years ago, no need for it.

There was some look of panic on the guard's face when I walked into the station with it.

So, next time she asks "Does my ass look big in these ?" either lie or hide the gun. :D

You sound like you have a problem with guns, what's the problem?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,737 ✭✭✭Bepolite

I really like guns, I enjoy shooting. There is absolutely no place for them in the home as you describe. Broken down in a proper safe is one thing, under the pillow/near the bed? You'd have to be a complete moron. What more likely is your young daughter gets hold of the gun one day and kills herself.

Are you a prisoner in Portlaoise Prison?

None. Just not for me. My neighbour's shoot regularly and they love it

Haha no but we are thinking of putting in electric gates so that people can't just drive up to the house and thinking of getting hall sensors as well. Oh and I forgot to say we have a safe as well.

The best weapon against a burglar is a fire extinguisher. Non lethal and can be used at a distance.

I everyone could get a gun in Ireland, half the population would be dead and the other half in jail

Don't know. It'd be handy if such a scenario happened, but you can't just go to the burglar, "hang on two seconds, I have to go get the gun from the safe". Jesus, these safes, amiright?". So then it'd have to be somewhere I could get to very handily, which makes owning a gun much more dangerous as it's in easier reach.

So TL;DR. I don't know, and I'd love another beer so I could think about it
