Update process failed on my Ativ S, must try harder!

I'm updating my 1020 as we speak. Looking forward to the use of folders on the home screen and the much needed improvement to IE.

Worked on mine, did not need to do anything special.

Live folders is so much nicer than Nokias App Folders.

The adjustable snooze length is nice.

I must try put IE through it's paces later, too.

I haven't switched to UK Cortana yet, because it would cease to be 'Cortana' (Although having temperatures in Celsius would be nice :-))

Install went fine on Lumia 920 (U.K. cv)

Funny thing. Because of the changes to IE to take into account the various mobile browser specific Hacks sites have used (rather than standards based stuff like IE 11 used to have), Microsoft have had to modify IE to be less standards based or make exceptions and use non standard headers etc. for a better user experience.

A vast improvement can be seen on Twitter after you install the update. Although ... The site clearly thinks it's being displayed on an Android phone because it prompts to download the app from Google Play and prompts to install Twitter for Android:D

I can't get over the fact it's been nearly 4 years since WP was released and we only see adjustable snooze now!?

Yeah it does the same for Ryanair & Aer Lingus! The knock on effect is the website will think that there is more androids using their website and even less wp ha!

Yeah. Fairly shocking that, but it's here now and MS seem to be getting better about adding features (probably to accommodate the new handset makers as well).

Hopefully the combined brains of the Nokia WP guys and the Microsoft WP guys can really push things forwards quickly - instead of being divided and the Nokia guys pushing things so far and then trying to keep stuff to make their handsets unique.

There eems to be an issue with the new 8.1 update for some devices
    http://www.wpcentral.com/some-devices-needs-oem-driver-updates-windows-phone-81-update-1

I have tried in a couple of times on a Lumia 520 but am also getting a 0x80188308 error before the install completes.

Worked on my 520 first time.

Folders seems ok. Time will tell if I keep it.

Adjustable snooze I like. haven't noticed much else. Haven't mine set to UK for Cortana. Is it that useful?

It's fun to try and works quite well for not being fully-supported in Ireland. The only disadvantage is that you can't purchase apps (free + trial are fine) from the store.

My Ativ S shows the error. Do you have many apps? and how much space do you have free on your phone and SD?

8GB free on phone (16GB) model and 25GB free on SD card.

    Yourself?

I installed the Windows Phone 8.1 update onto my Vodafone Nokia Lumia 1520 last night and am very impressed with the update

The installation went without any problems and the new version is a lot quicker than Windows Phone 8 Black

The new mail, XBOX and Facebook apps are a major improvement on the Windows Phone 8.0 versions

The OS really flies on the 1520s hardware and is substantially faster than Android Kit-Kat on the Xperia Z1 (which has basically the same hardware)

No SD card in my Ativ S and its about half full internal memory wise. Lots of apps installed too.

4.7Gb free out of 16Gb, 18Gb free from 32gb on SD card.
I have tried 2 times a day, but no joy.

Seems a lot of people have the issue, even Lumias. It's not the storage so.

My CSC code is ATO. is it the same for you?

Update failing on my 625, even after full reset which left 4gig+ free space so storage not an issue...annoying

Could someone with an Ativ S please check what CSC (s)he has?

In diagnosis, (##634##) type *#321647335 DON'T CHANGE ANYTHING!

    I get this list:
    ATO
    BTU
    DBT
    ITV
    XEF
    XEO

I remember I changed to ATO months ago to get GDR updates. I wonder if it is the same for people with an Ativ S that upgraded without a hitch.

Here is a link with explanation:

I am on "DBT", and update worked first time, with no hassle..

What would happen if I changed to DBT?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 654 ✭✭✭Wcool

    Well hardware reset for sure

I dunno what I will do, I am trying to find why the upgrade worked for people and not for others.
But i don't need it that badly.. will wait for MS to fix it

Yesterday I've got 8.1 update for my Lumia 620 (O2 UK). Vers. 8.10.12393.890 (with transition version 8.0.10532.166).
My bigger disappointment is no option for changing search provider as I hate Bing and I would disable search button on my Lumia if I only could.

    http://gadgets.ndtv.com/mobiles/news/bing-made-only-search-provider-for-windows-phone-81-gdr1-in-some-regions-570589

I am also very disappointed with new music player - it opens slower, it got lot of new useless options and this big stupid "xbox" text on a top of screen. I hated old Back and Forward buttons because they were too small - and could you imagine, they made them even smaller in 8.1!!

I suspected there is bunch of idiots working in Microsoft, and now I got a proof. I am on my way back to android, I afraid...

I kinda agree with him. For every great thing in wp there's something really daft. I'm torn if I'll stay with WP.

and that's fair enough, but calling people idiots because they weren't aware of his particular favourite button size is idiotic in itself. There are channels for feedback, this forum is most definitely not one of them.

Making the most commonly used buttons smaller is a bit daft. As its new to 8.1 you could argue its a feature... ; )

Some changes seem peculiar, but i couldn't say that they're good or bad. they'll just take some getting used to .
