I've had some big surprised in scrap yards. You never know what you'll find or from what year. :D
Kilcock is great for a browse. :)

Bloody love that place, going there tomorrow for a scout around, never know what I might come out with

Well as far as I know the gearstick just pulls off with a bit of effort, and from seeing gear sticks in halfords and the likes, I assume they're fairly quick and easy to change (but i'd like a proper, 407 gear stick, or at least a 6-sdeed gearstick with black leather on it).

The issue with the steering wheel is that the top section of it is just kinda peeled away a lot. It looks like it's lost a coat of leather (if that makes any sense) and it's very 'chipped' or something. It feels a bit rough in the hand. So it's not just discolouration or anything like that. Would restoration be worth a look?

From what I have seen, 'restoration' means some chap sewing a cover onto it, but i wouldnt like the wheel any thicker than it is (I actually removed one of those cheaper accessory covers from it when i bought it, as the wheel was too thick and i didn't find it comfortable).

Gear knob either pull off and smack you in the teeth or twist off and get you repetitive stress injuries. Great fun. :pac:
    Easy swap though, yeah.

And no, a proper refurb will be stripping back the outer layer of the wheel and reapplying fresh materials.
Alanstrainor got his 3 Series wheel done recently.

Ah, okay.. well, to be honest, I'm sure I could pull the knob off myself without needing a professional to help...

    :P

But the wheel, considering it's working with air bags and such, I'd not tackle myself, so i'd be happy to get it refurbished, but i'd also not close the door on the thoughts of just swapping it over with a newer, crisper, feeling one, from a different 407, from a scrapyard.

According to Partfinder, there seems to be a couple of 407's near enough to me (I'm in Louth) so they may be worth a look.

Would also obviously have to take into account how much a decent restoration job would cost, and how much a scrappie would want for his wheel.

This question probably gets asked loads so sorry in advance but do they check the reading / internal light as part of the NCT?

I'm pretty sure they don't. If they do, it would be an advisory and you would pass anyway.

My bank account is taking a massive pummeling today :o
    Parts ordered for the 900
    Parts ordered for the 9-5
New tyres and tracking for the 9-5

    Ouchies :(

Also I was in kilcock scrappy today, came away empty handed, although there's a 900 turbo hidden away in a corner :D so I'll be paying that a visit I'm sure :D

And for cianryan, there's a newer mx5, wine, no much in it but it does have a nice steering wheel and other bits

I left the car in work as I deem it too dangerous to drive home, because my front pads are gone and its only metal on metal. I ordered new pads and discs from Micksgarage but because of the bank holiday if means it will be tomorrow at least before I get them. There is alot to be said for brake indicators...my car did have these.

There was no fuel in it when i left or in. ... now there's plenty. ... that might explain some of my bill !

Spotted this on YLYL. Wouldn't do it myself but it's kinda cool. Would suit Gvidor maybe?

    The focus ?

Was it in getting something fixed or did you get a new car ?
