Lock/Password protect folder on Ext HD

    I am using a Macbook pro 2012 and I have a 1TB ext Toshiba HD. I want to lend it to some friends to share some files but I have a personal folder on it that if possible I would like to password protect so that they cannot access it.

    Can anyone tell me how to ad a password to a folder if it can be done that is!!

    Your best bet is to partition a portion of the hard drive that contains your files - do this through disk utility. then right click that partition (which will appear as a separate drive on your desktop) and click "encrypt" the drive. This will mean you can put a password on your separate partition. The rest of the HD will be freely available to your friends.

    Also, if they are on a windows machine just make sure it is in FAT32 format so it can be used on both mac and pc.
