Corrupted zipped folder - give up on it?

I've a folder on my netbook that was zipped for transfer to a USB drive but when trying to unzip it I'm told it can't be done because it's corrupted. Sadly, it has photos I really need to recover as I've no other copies of them. Is there any freeware I can use to solve this or is the folder bu**ered and I should just sigh…

There are a number of zip recovery programs available most need payment. However you might try http://www.diskinternals.com/zip-repair
which is a free utility from Diskinternals
