The trawlers are still getting them on the porcupine bank which is unusual for this time of year as most shoals would have moved inland by now.

Can be snaggy if left to sink too much. Yeah long pier! Can be crowded but best fished 1hour or so before/after high water.

Was out in Dalkey today where I met three lads that were fishing for hours for Macks without any luck, slow enough for this year so alright. I bought 5 sets of feathers yesterday' just to be ready to go for when they eventually show up!!
We live in hope :-)

tried for mackerel in a small boat out of greystones... drops all along south of greystones, bray head, killiney bay/shankill and all round dalkey island...picked up a few back of dalkey island in the channel and a few off the old tea rooms on killiney...9.30am to 6.30pm friday 1st august for less than 20 fish.

It seems to be getting slower every year over the last couple of years for whatever reason

That's what I've noticed anyway. If I go back a couple of years there always seemed to be loads around and it gradually seems to be getting worse every year.

Went out to Dalkey and blanked on the Mackerel front, along with 6/7 other anglers. Managed to catch and return a nice little Dogfish (Mackerel strips as bait), also my mate caught 3 large (approx 12" in length)Sandeels on feathers, never saw that happening myself before.......?

I am off to Enniscrone in Sligo in a week or two, I believe that there is a little pier there, any good for fishing, Mackerel or otherwise??

Enniscrone is decent, be out an hour or two before high tide. Caught only 6 on Monday. Last year around the same time caught about 40.

Looks like we will all have to drive all to Sligo to get a few Macks this year!! Thanks for the advice....looking forward to wetting a line while on holidays :-)

couple more today kinsale, 3 of us there we had about 20

i was only using a 9ft trout rod and a toby so i could have probably caught more but i only wanted a bit of crack i dont really eat them

Ther is some mackeral being caught of Greenore Co Louth, and that was yesterday....
Also somebody posted that there is no sprat hence no Mackeral following,, not true, I foul hooked one yesterday.
