Slow UPC because of Cancelling?

    Has Anyone else experience of this?.....

    I cancelled my UPC account due to slow speeds and bad service (should be getting 120mbps, actually getting 20-30).

    The day I got a call from UPC to confirm cancelling, my internet speed has been reduced to 1mbps. Is this something UPC do to people who cancel accounts? Is this the way they operate?

    Am I missing something here or are you complaining that you are still getting Internet access after cancelling the service?

    I should have clarified. After you request to cancel your account, they call you back to confirm you want to cancel and tell you that the service will stop after 31 days.

    So I'm a UPC customer for the next 31 days with a Broadband speed of 1mbps.

    did you reboot the router at all,and are your pcs windows 7 or above?

    Yeah, remove the tinfoil hat and reboot the router ;)

    Haha,

    Yeah, I rebooted the modem and it got back up to 30mbps. But has since dropped again.

    Its a problem with the equipment or system. Id had it before for months. Download drops to 1-2Mbps but upload will stay where it should be. A reboot restores normal service for a while.

    I cancelled UPC in the past and the service wasn't slowed down. I really doubt they would do it, especially when you still are a paying customer.

    The only reason I can think of is technical issue (on either side), or exceeding the fair use policy (very unlikely).

    are you getting these speeds with WiFi or through network cable? Wifi G can top out at around 30-35MBps for me.

    Getting that speed on wireless. I have an N router.

    You're probably dropping back to b/g for compatibility with a legacy device. Did you get the full 120(or 90 if you dont have gigE) over a wired connection?


    The *mega* slow speeds(1-2 Mbps) isnt wifi related.
