Handbrake cable C5 2006

    Currently living in poland with my Irish rhd C5. Handbrake cable snapped, I've been told that the LHD C5's have handbrakes on rear wheels and not the front wheels, so getting a new cable is impossible? Surely this isn't so?

    All hydractive C5s (so every C5 until '08) have front handbrakes, the suspension can't operate with a rear handbrake. Even the mk2 ('08 ->) only gets around this by using an electronic handbrake.

    There's only one cable listed for left and right, both LHD and RHD. Number 2 in this diagram, 4745 R5. The cable outers (or guide tubes) are sided but again the same for LHD vs RHD. The outers are a pig of a job to replace, but the inner cable is OK with a bit of ingenuity. You might end up needing an outer also, they're open to road spray at the wheel end and start rusting inside, which is what caused the cable to snap. From memory I think the cables are around €25 each from Citroen, probably cheaper in Poland though. The outers are a similar price.

    Can confirm the above. However, you'll probablly need the outer guide if you cannot remove the old one. You've to drop a section of the exhaust and heat sheild to get at them. Not a complicated job, just one that'll take time.

    Hi Dougie, Mycroft.
    I've heard these outers can be difficult to replace and that "height is your friend".
    Could I do the job with 10" ramps? Is that height enough?
    Will I manage with the wheel left on, on the ramp?
    Thanks a mil for any guidance.
    (Cable sheath was completely bound to the outer tube, no way I could get it extracted.)
