I always find the airport to be the worst place, and every time I say next time I'm bringing my own stuff, but then you leave in a hurry and forget all about it. The airport here anyway, there is literally nothing I can eat, they don't even sell popcorn or anything.

There's actually vegetarian places in a lot of airports now that do vegan friendly stuff, you just need to fly to Asia more! :p

Does seem to be a very Irish thing to hate cats. People have the same sort of attitude to them as rats etc.

Whipped up some churros last night during the football. Another accidentally vegan treat :) Just unfortunate that when you see them in restaurants etc they always add unnecessary eggs or milk!

    Recipe please?!

Also, am thinking of going into the Asian supermarket in Jervis, I've never been in a purely Asian/Polish/etc supermarket before so am unsure as to what bargains I should be looking out for! Any tips?

I don't bother with the sauce. Although I think they would be nice with some sort of tangy fruit coulis maybe.

    thanks :D
loads of questions........don't laugh at them though :o
last week I was sooo good making dinners etc but this week.....im lazy. I'm eating the same dinners as hubby minus the meat/dairy. The other night I had roasted veg - Although delish...probably not the healthiest.
night before that was mash and beans
last night: salad, couscous, hummous, homemade baba ganoush, flatbread

what do you eat for quick proteins?

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 60,115 Mod ✭✭✭✭Tar.Aldarion

I'd say lots of things, chickpeas, lentils, kidney beans...all beans, nuts seeds. I'd throw nuts into my veg etc. Tahini, hummous. Also the likes of tofu (must freeze and thaw to taste good!) or fake meat if you are into that.
Any soy product really, soy beans etc. Nut butters, tempeh. Quinoa too, that's good for you and yummy in general. Much better than having rice or couscous.
Veg*n protein is quite fast and easy to add into a dish! I'd make peanut butter stew with chickpeas, or just cook something and throw nuts in...or make a banana peanut butter smoothie.
You can also get the ground up seeds/nuts that you can throw on any dish, chia seeds etc.

I'm getting pretty starving writing this

this is very interesting!! as in stick it in the freezer for a couple days? I had tofu I think once before years ago and wasn't keen but would like to try it again.
love quinoa, chickpeas, hummous so onto a winner there :P

I hear ya, im starving too. its lunch time but mine is frozen solid  I made a curry last week wt chickpeas, cauliflower, spinch etc (prob one of the nicest things ive eaten btw) and grabbed a portion out of the freezer this morning for my lunch......its trying to thaw under my desk as we speak!

Don't need to freeze it that long, as long as it is frozen and thawed it completely changes the texture, makes it much much tastier. Really don't like tofu much when it hasn't been frozen. Was discovered in Japan by accident when they left it outside at night to keep it cool :p It's also much nicer marinated , mm, completely different food then.

Chickpeas are a super food, make them into anything..hummous...falafel etc. God speed frozen lunch. Everybody here is off for pizza, I have a sandwich, bad times.

Proteinnnn. I used to try and get a mix of legumes and grain everyday to make sure that I was getting enough of all the essential amino acids, in addition to just getting enough protein. But, I track what I eat on cronometer and the stats came out just fine even on days where I ate nothing but fruit some days, so don't really worry about it too much anymore! That being said some kind of grain and legume is a quick dinner/lunch combo. And legumes are great for many other reasons. Had a red pepper stuffed with lentils for lunch myself today was great.

Fecking Americans and their all-over-the-shop units of measurement. Grammes of protein per cup, well I never :p

Been lent a copy of The Happy Cow cookbook by my boss as we're going to write to our co-contributors. Just flicking through is making me so hungry, some really yummy looking stuff. Must buy my own copy.

I haven't heard of this book, is it a vegan book or just veggie?

Vegan. The website happy cow has been round for yonks but the cookbook only came out this year I think. The site is great for finding vegan and veggie friendly restaurants and the cookbook combines recipes from 45 vegan restaurants around the world.

My parents moved house and I really like it, we have a balcony overlooking the sea and there's a little convenience store selling pineapples for a euro, I've literally sat on the balcony eating pineapple from the minute I wake up until going back to bed all weekend (the weather is great here atm not torrential like Dublin's been).

Is your restaurant in the cookbook Killer B?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,911 ✭✭✭Zombienosh

    Pineapple is awesome.

I think it is a bit. Originated in the US anyway. Cookbook seems to be a good balance of places though. I have only flicked through it so far though.

Yup. Interview with the owner and two recipes (although I think one of them might only have been served in Spain).

I wanted a 'treat' thing so I got pack of plain nachos and guacamole in the supermarket, just looking at the jar after, the guac has milk in it -_-
I didn't even think to check it, it's so frustrating that they would put milk in guacamole, like why >.<

It is so stupid, isn't it? Utterly unnecessary ingredients and at least you know to read labels (though I can see why you got caught out on that one) - think what people who never read labels are eating.
