We can laugh at eachother, but the sad fact is both clubs are way down the list for players like Reus and Hummels.
I think one of the main factors for these guys is where their WAGs want to live. Madrid, Barelona, Paris, London, Monaco, Munich appeal to these ladies much more than rainy Manchester and Liverpool.

James Ducker tweeted that Anderson was not tour's list, maybe the time is finally up.

Anderson was finished with utd last year, they sent him on loan to fiorentina giving them the option to sign for 7m this summer but they didn't take up the offer, so he is just back at utd now keeping fit until they can sell him to another club. they even gave his number to mata in Jan

    @SkyFootball

Harry Redknapp: Ryan Giggs told me if he'd been manager this year Rio would have been his No 1 centre-half.

Jesus wept. So happy that Giggs wasn't given that job. And I would hope he never gets it.
Giggs told me that if he was manager this season, he was gonna mix things up a bit and have Anderson as his no 2 centre half.

This being full of it and making stuff up comes easy to 'Arry and me.

Rio and Vida will shut a lot of people up this season.

If Rio is a managed like he was pre Moyes there's no reason he can't produce.

He'll probably need to retrieve his pre-Moyes legs as well

I think he is trying to say that while we laugh at the fact Liverpool think they can land vidal, pogba, reus, Hummels that we talk about them more.

He thinks that we think Liverpool are obsessed with these lads, but it looks like they believe they will be able to get these targets and we have no chance and are deluded into thinking we have a chance?

The thing is we have a very good chance, but since we had a bad season last year and they had a good season we are a mid table club completely ommiting that Liverpool are just that in the last 15 years so I have no idea why any top player would move there, now since Saurez is gone.

    Absolutely ridiculous.

Don't agree at all. Look you'll always have fans who are completely deluded in terms of what targets their team can attract. In fairness it's been a p**s take that Liverpool can attract these players. I think most of the Reus stuff has been to get a rise out of a well known Dortmund fan in the thread.

Most Liverpool fans realise where we are in the pecking order and that one year in the champions league is not gonna make a huge difference in attracting players especially given that we can't offer the same wages as other top clubs. We have to get in that top 4 on a consistent basis to be competing.

Regarding the 4 players you mentioned we have zero chance of signing any of them. I believe United have a chance of signing Vidal given the latest reports and he would be a beast for United. I don't think the Hummels or Reus are going anywhere and I think ye blew it with Pogba.

Rio is basically finished at this stage. And how exactly do you "manage" your first choice centre half?? Rest him for half the season? I would have thought a first choice player would play the vast majority of games.

Actually this seems to be a recurring type of post on here. Posters believe we should be competing at the very top level, but at the same time they believe that Carrick, Rio, Nani, Cleverley, Evra, Vidic are good enough to be still in the first team. And that somehow Moyes ruined them, and they are now ready to bounce back to 2008 levels.
Would these players get in the Bayern, Chelsea, City, Barca, Arsenal, PSG, Madrid teams? Not a f*cking chance! And we won't be competing with those teams until we install the quality of player that they have.

Not wanting to stick the boot into Carrick multiple posts in a row, but he can play CB, but he's not all that good at it. I wouldn't be relying on him as anything more than a desperate back up for the position.

Not saying playing as a CB but similar to what Strootman did for LVG playing as a midfielder dropping in as an additional CB when we don't have the ball

I dont think they would be. Ok they get bad weather for 7/12 months of the year but I think that is a far too simplistic way of looking at it.

OK, it would of course be nicer to live in the other cites, but its not like they will be stuck for a few euro so can afford anything they want and could pop on a plane in half an hour to anywhere they wanted.

PLaying for Man utd, one of the most succesful clubs in the last 20 years would be able to balance out a bit of rain.

I dont think their wifes would have much of say in their career. Could you imagine your wife saying to you, no hunny I dont want to move to Limerick, to one of the biggest companies in your field and the pinnacle of your career, I want to move to somewhere sunny and you can work for a 2nd or 3rd rate company.

They only have 5/10 years at the top and I dont see why they would not pick us aside from personal reasons. Its not like we are cheap on the wages.

I have been working nearly 7 years now. If I was a pro footballer, my career is nearly half over, I would be looking to move to a big team.

I dont believe the oh I want CL football, especially in the case of us.

Ryan Giggs would have been a terrible manager, biased towards his friends, he has a lot of learning to do if he wants to be United manager in the future.

He was on ridiculous wages, wasn't financially visible to keep him on another year for the input he'd have.

Who said he has to be first choice ?
You manage him exactly how Fergie did. You don't play him twice in a week.

Everyone wrote off Terry as well till Mourinho came back and managed him.

I dont really creep on the Liverpool thread, only read a page or 2 yesterday/day before but I heard a bit of talk in RL from liverpool supporters thinking this is the case and how man utd are finished.

But then maybe I shouldnt be listening to their opinions when one thinks david silva is as good as Messi or talk about paper rumours as fact.

Yeah Terry wasn't broken though and could play multiple games in a row.

The young defenders beside him will gain nothing from having a new partner every other week.

Was just thinking that, It's amazing that this was even being considered by some, I think United are far too loyal to players past and present in some regards.

He was on ridiculous wages, wasn't financially visible to keep him on another year for the input he'd have.

If he signed a new deal it would be on reduced terms, he might have a been a good option along with Jones, Evans and Smalling , this all depends on your faith in the ability of the players already at the club though.

Did Ferdinand even play a game under Giggs i could be wrong but i don't think so. I would be very surprised if he set he would have been his first choice cb.

Tom Lawrence signed a long term deal, don't know how many years but one for the future no doubt.

Watch him next season, see how many injuries he picks up, and see any player with pace skin him alive.

    Players get old. Accept it.

I don't think I would pay too much attention to anyone who says United are finished ;)

It is a huge Transfer window for both clubs and in spite of not having champions league football ye have more pulling power than us.

Bebe looks set to be gone. Apparently out of the pre season squad and flying to Benfica to do a medical.

Tbf he would have been a decent backup but better of letting him go, Vidic however IMO had another two or so seasons that he would have had a massive impact on our team.

Sure it could happen to anyone.

Players get old but doesn't mean they can't contribute.

We can readdress Ferdinand at the end the of the season.

Would people be happy with De Vrij, De Jong and Depay or Shaqiri. I just think you need Champions League to attract the likes of Vidal and Hummels.

I would gladly except 4th if the following happened.

We were playing good positive football.
The deadwood was slowly moved out of the club.
Younger players were given a chance.
LVG plus Champions League would be a huge draw for players.

People can go on about how United should be aiming to win the league it's fair enough. But i would accept 4th once there are signs of positive changes that will get the club back on track.
