im confident we will see signings withing couple of weeks.

The carrick injury now shud force our hand and a center back also is surely on the agenda.

Youd have to think what van gaal said yesterday about transfers is nonsense, no way hed wait til the season started to buy a centerback after two leaving.

The longer we go without getting the players in, the more risky it becomes, going on previous years, normally 90% of our transfers are done by now.

Carrick is 33 year old midfielder who lacks pace, and has just suffered a medium term injury. He really shouldn't be playing a big part in the future of the team. Great squad player for the next two years, but no more than that.

On Carrick....am I the only one who thought the notion of signing DeJong was/is nuts? Carrick>De Jong imo....put a decent ball player beside him and there are few better at that deep lying role, break up the play, cover gaps, play it simple, keep the team ticking over.....

Obviously that has all changed now with the injury and we'll surely have to get someone in.

I thought he singled out Carrick because he was asked about experience and Carrick is the oldest player in the squad, no?

Excluding Evra, since he appears to be out.

I'm sure I read around the World Cup time an article about LVG being a fan of Carrick. In LVGs system with Strootman, he dropped in to play as a 3rd CB when they lost the ball. There is a possibility that LVG sees Carrick in a similar way in that he can play CB and could drop deep when we don't have possession

    Exactly... :P

Ha sorry he singled him out because of his experience yes, thought you said just because he was the oldest player. Too early in the morning for me :P

Wow just realised Carrick being the oldest at 32 isn't it? Mad to think he's the oldest lad there now, doesn't seem like its been 8 or so years since we bought him from spurs.

They've bought 20 yr old Mathias Ginter, which means they now have 4 center halves. He's been signed as backup after last season when they were down to playing midfielders at center half due to injury. Hummels also has 3 yrs left on his contract. Unless they sign another center half and a bid above £35m goes in, he's going nowhere.

Hummels is probably joining up with his buddy Reus at Liverpool anyway. That's if they have enough cash after buying Vidal and Pogba.

Well I did say that, but I thought it followed that; is oldest -> has played the longest -> is most experienced. ;)

Yeah with people like Giggs and Scholes being around so long, it's weird now that they're gone to have someone like Carrick as the oldest player when he seems like he's from a different era.

Supposedly they're talking about putting in a cheeky bid for both Messi and Ronaldo too. There's rumours that Messi feels his career would be incomplete without a PL title and he has his sights on Liverpool since it's their year.

De Jong offers far more crunch in the tackle, breaks up play and covers gaps, all the simple stuff you just mentioned. Both players would end up being put beside a decent ball player anyway but De Jong would add more to the coupling.

Not wanting to stick the boot into Carrick multiple posts in a row, but he can play CB, but he's not all that good at it. I wouldn't be relying on him as anything more than a desperate back up for the position.

James Ducker tweeted that Anderson was not tour's list, maybe the time is finally up.

There's a day for the lock pick and a day for the sledge hammer.

Too often in recent years we come to sledge hammer days and all we have is a bunch of spare picks. :)

So the ever reliable Daily Star say that Yaya Toure "snubbed" a £40 million bid from Man United. The star say "The snub is a blow to new United boss Louis Van Gaal". Its an exclusive too so you know it's true ;)

Sad news, he usually peaks at this time of year.

I like De Jong. Would be really good if we got him for 10 million ish

Its always handy to have those players in the squad

The Daily Star also going with a story saying Vermaelen is set to join United because he was spotted on holidays with RVP....I can't see any flaws in that logic ;)

I can't remember the last time I went on holidays with a mate and didn't quit my job when I got home to go join their company.

As frustrating as it is I am really liking the media blackout on transfers and in general from within the club.

Clearly a direct request from Van Gaal, this time last year we were leaking info like a sinking ship

De Jong is apparently very happy in Milan. Mightn't be all that easy to get him. Wasn't it Sneijder that said recently he believed De Jong would end his career in Milan?

I'd prefer Turan to De Jong any day.

It really is laughable the stories they post, no sort of concrete backing they just publish any rumour that comes in to their head.

Another article on the Star today saying that Wenger wants Hernandez, Smalling or Danny Welbeck to be part of a "sensational swap deal" for Vermalean.

...It's been a great source of amusement reading the Star.

    @SkyFootball

Harry Redknapp: Ryan Giggs told me if he'd been manager this year Rio would have been his No 1 centre-half.

Jesus wept. So happy that Giggs wasn't given that job. And I would hope he never gets it.

He said he plans on playing Rio Dunne and Calker. Straight back down with them, hopefully.

I've no idea what you're trying to prove there. Somebody posted an article in this thread linking the players I mentioned to Liverpool. Sorry if my little joke offended you.

I think he is trying to say that while we laugh at the fact Liverpool think they can land vidal, pogba, reus, Hummels that we talk about them more.

He thinks that we think Liverpool are obsessed with these lads, but it looks like they believe they will be able to get these targets and we have no chance and are deluded into thinking we have a chance?

The thing is we have a very good chance, but since we had a bad season last year and they had a good season we are a mid table club completely ommiting that Liverpool are just that in the last 15 years so I have no idea why any top player would move there, now since Saurez is gone.

    Absolutely ridiculous.

Didn't realise that Mame Diouf had signed for Stoke - hope he does well for them.
