Seems the earlier reports of a truce deal are now being denied by both sides.
Hopefully something can be agreed on soon.

Hamas seem to think that they can negotiate some meaningful concessions from what has been the status quo for the last few years, but I can't see them getting anything meaningful from Netanyahu this time round - he seems to be too worried about criticism from the extreme-right at the moment.

Also, the UN are claiming that one of their buildings was being used to hide rockets.

No other army outside of the permanent Security council members gets as much protection as the IDF. not many countries would get off so likely for attack UN outposts and schools.

UN positions & personnel are attacks in all our area's of operations ~ our guys currently serving in Syria lay witness to that, and up to mid week so did our guys in Lebanon.

Syrians recently kidnapped some UNDOF soldiers, some French UN peacekeepers were recently killed in Mali. UN compounds are attacked all across Africa & the middle east ~ and even as far as Haiti in the West Indies.

Attacking UN forces is not the preserve of the IDF

Hamas dont give a **** about civilians be it Israeli or their own but as long as Israel show that peace achieves nothing (and they're doing a fantastic job of that with the west bank) Hamas will exist and will continue to fire.

Every Civilian killed by Israeli weapons creates more potential recruits for hamas and solidifies their power in gaza and hamas know that

This I agree with, however firing rockets into Israel isn't achieving much in the way of peace either ~ as I've often said ''Going to war is like f*cking for virginity".
    @Makikomi

I think you need to take off the blinkers.

"Blinkers" ~ LOL, right.. Tel you what, why don't YOU f*ck off over to someone elses God damned war and then come back with that rubbish ~ you don't think I know or have witnessed what the IDF is capable of.

Watch this story dissappear from the headlines after the Malaysian Airline being brought down. Could be a major offensive from Israel now with not so much scrutiny on them.

RIP to all. The world is a sad place at the moment.

There has never been a Palestinian people? Are you actually serious? Funnily enough I know loads of them. I've stayed in their houses and had dinner with them. I never knew they were a figment of my imagination.

This is one of the most unpalatable positions of Israel and its supporters, the denial that Palestinians even exist. As if they're just a shower of Jordanians squatting on land that rightly belongs to the Jews or something. Secondly, the whole "there's never been a Palestinian state" is a non-issue; as if Israel was a continuous entity or something as opposed to a royal vassal kingdom 3000 years ago. Even then, they were vastly different to the coalition of Americans, Russians and Ethiopians who make up Israel today.

I said "There has never been a Palestinian nation" not that there has never been a Palestinian people. Putting words in another posters mouth is extremely bad form and the sign of a devious poster.

There is no Palestinian nation as yet, I'm completely right in saying that and you trying to claim I said something else is outrageous.

Nope. A nation consists of people. The word you're looking for is "state".

To answer the OPs question, whilst I also have little interest in Garth Brooks or his concerts, the media could argue events surrounding him and his concert are actual news. Whereas Palestinians and Israelis killing each other is not news. By that logic, Garth Brooks takes the headlines.

A better way is to look at the size of Gaza and compare it, let's say to the Isle of Man.
Or closer to home it's the same size as South Dublin and Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown combined but with nearly four times the population.

Israel has been barred from hosting UEFA Champions League or Europa League matches until further notice.

Not that that prevents further violence in Gaza.

They should be excluded anyway, but for some reason people aren't keen to pursue peaceful means of getting the point across. Depressing.

They were booted out of the Asian federation in 1976. In the 80's they played within the Oceania Football Confederation but were later excluded from that too.

UEFA took them in in '94 because nobody else would have them.

Amazing that there was people on this thread who said that Israel didn't intend to kill civilians unlike HAMAS. Tell that to the sizeable proportion of women and children dead.
