Thiago was around 1-12 last summer!

Remember Sneijder was 1/25 at one stage and betting suspended - wouldnt take any notice of odds. All it takes is one newspaper article saying Bayern are interested in him and the odds will shift sharply.

And just some food for thought.

We wanted a CM who is strong, aggressive and can play ball from the back. We signed Herrera. He is very impressive and fits our needs very well.

We wanted a LB to replace the aging Patrice Evra. We signed Luke Shaw, one of the most promising full backs in World football.

We just signed a fcuking ridiculous shirt deal and we just signed a new sponsor. This will free up massive amounts cash in the years to come, meaning we will compete aggressively with our rivals without FFP hanging over us.

We will have killer fcuking kits for the next ten years.

LVG! Holy crap! Hard as nails, but could bring out the best in players currently seen as castoff. Also, he has the highest testicle weight:body weight ratio in football.

We have Juan Mata! I sometimes still do not believe this.

Hell, we even have a great fixture list to start the season and, with no CL, we have plenty of time to rest our stars instead of sending them to Klapakistan during the week.

As far as I'm concerned, anyone else we sign between now and August is a massive bonus. If we have to start with Carrick/Fellaini etc for a few months, then so be it. You can be sure we will be in for someone in January.

There is so much to be happy about, and I refuse to ruin it by worrying about journalists and their integrity.

Picture of player in kit. Then I'm happy (no Mikel talk please!).

    Onwards and upwards!

Fanastic post and agree 100%, roll on 12.45 on 16th August, hate this silly season!

Who has the best odds on him staying at Juve?

Lads every club knows all the English clubs are loaded already compared to their respective continental comparisons given TV money etc. without us having to worry about the effect of the announcement of our kit deal. Don't buy in to the slight that ''everyone has it in for the English teams'' or ''English tax'' or ''English player tax'' when it comes to transfers, because buy and large the premier league clubs as a collective have much more wealth than the other European leagues, that's why they are always pushed to pay more.

why is it every time United fail in pursuit of a player, it is because the player rejected us and not because of something United decided to do, or not do.

Fabregas - ah sure he probably rejected us, thats why we didn't bid.
Kroos - don't beleive every journo who says the deal was basically done. We never had a chance, thats why we didn't get him.
Vidal - far more likely he rejected us that United decided to pinch the pennies.

My opinion on Kroos is that he stalled and had his ear bent by someone at Madrid somewhere along the way after we supposedly spoke to him in Jan, probably after it was clear that United were not going to make CL.

I'm going to chalk the Fabregas deal down to naievity on the part of Moyes and Woodward and the possible reluctance on the part of Barca to let him go after Thiago Alacantra left.

There's still a long while to go in the Vidal story yet but you can believe the Mail and Sun all you want. I'll be happy when Van Gaal gets the midfielder he wants, be that Vidal or not.

Ladbrokes I think 6/4 on Sunday. However I'd be fairly wary of putting money on it as it appears as if Juventus are trying to sell him as they need the money.

Slight change of topic from the transfers/Vidal talk, what do we reckon the chances of the likes of Powell, Lawrence, Pearson, Janko getting games. Guess it depends on signings and departures really. For example if Hernandez leaves then Wilson may get more game time, Janko at right back may cover for Rafael, hope Powell gets some game time, really talent if he keeps his off the field antics in check.

My computer was down yesterday at work and after I'd had my fill of filing I started doodling on a piece of paper...wrote out a United X1 from our current squad....pretty s£xy I thought....I then started writing down subs and squad players....man, we have a sh!t load of players, with no Champions league, a lot are going to have to go somewhere, either on loan or for good....

I expect LVG to be having a good look at all these over the next couple of weeks before he goes splashing big bucks again, who knows what that man thinks he can do with TC23?!!

I would go along with this. Our glaring issues at LB and CM have been addressed.

LVG will assess the rest of the squad before dipping into the market again, I still think we will sign one or two players.

There are so many players in the squad better than what they showed last season and I expect LVG get them back to a decent level.

I honestly don't think so... I reckon he could be moulded, with the right coach, into a half decent holding midfielder, in the mould of Carrick, but with more pace and bite. Sit there, cover gaps and play it simple.

Either that or a back up left back!!!

The boy has talent, I just think he was wholly confused with his role last year as well as being ruffled by the campaign against him.

There are a few I'd sell before him.

I have failed to see his talent in a Man Utd shirt, at the top level he simply isnt good enough. Only being kept around because he is home grown.

While I agree there are others Id sell before him, Id still sell him too.

I'm still amazed that people believe what is written in the Daily Mail or the Mirror.

Imagine the team we would have if they were true.

I think he has talent, and could turn into a decent player. There is no point in hurting the team by playing him at the moment when he isn't up to scratch. The main problem is that there are numerous players who are a lot better right now, with more potential (Clasie, etc).

I'd let Cleverley go to Everton. Fletcher, Carrick, Fellaini & Herrera are all better options. Powell is a good prospect.

Well that depends on how much faith you have in the players already at the club, again I expect players that were written of under Moyes to come good.

this part is definitely true especially the fact that we have Van Gaal now, as opposed to Moyes.

the team does need some top quality investment though in center back and midfield, hopefully this is done in the next 2-3 weeks.

It's progress anyway, I'd no confidence in Moyes, his backroom staff and the job Ed Woodward was doing regarding players.

LVG seems like a bit of a baller, a tough nut, in a similar mould to Fergie in that respect (though I feel he got a little sentimental around the end of his tenure). LVG will have no problem cutting the dross from the team, and seems to have a hell of a lot more pull and buzz about him than Moyes had.

Ed Woodward has got me 2 players I actually wanted, in positions we actually needed. The Adidas deal also helps the club immeasurably.

I feel we still need two or three more players but if we didn't get them, I wouldn't be completely gutted.

    Haha.

I got lumped in by accident to the people who had soccer access removed after world cup.

They will have to try harder then that to remove.my short novels !

In relation to Vidal stuff..as I said yesterday. Old Trafford like a media blackout now that LVG is in charge, being a bit less transparent then Moyes reign.

Journos obviously won't confirm this so they arnt shown up as out of the loop...but it seems obvious to me.

The guys who have been on the ball are totally of it now..that they arnt getting the inside track from Woodwars and his team..nor Moyes.

Taking everything this summer with a pinch of salt.

Although if we penny pinched on Vidal...after missing out on 25m Kroos...only sealing Strootman would make some ammends.

I say Cleverley is bricking it about tomorrow.

Far fetched fantasy...Cleverly could be eager and maybe LVG can do something with him.

Looked totally uncomfortable in his role last year. Needs his position and responsibilities defined clearly.

He's a neat passer and great stamina...there is hope yet. He is dogged aswell which helps.

But certainly running out of straws

United players face Van Gaal trial (ESPN)
Louis van Gaal will effectively put some of Manchester United's players through a series of trials when he arrives to the club as the new manager on Wednesday.

The Dutchman is set to be presented to the media on Thursday but will meet his squad and staff 24 hours earlier and has reportedly put a block on loan deals until he has watched the squad in person.
