Maximum Time Window on Root Canal

    So I have a toothache in an upper molar.. I'm pretty sure it's an abscess, as I had a similar experience in January with a lower molar.. same pain.

    Back in January my Dentist gave me a course of antibiotics and I was back for a root canal after a week or so.

    Now, my problem is this.. I'm stoney broke and getting married in March.. I am supposed to be getting my lower molar crowned in August which I can barely afford.

    How much time will the antibiotics (assuming she prescribes them) buy me before I will need the upper tooth root canaled?

    No one can say, it is the luck of the draw....
    sometimes antibiotics clears up the acute infection for months or years!!
    some people get a few weeks
    sometimes the antibiotics don't clear the infection atall....

    Get the first stage of the root canal in the interim....

    Your dentist can do an initial clean and shaping of the root canal to get rid of most of the dead and infected debris. He/ she can then fill it temporarily with an antibacterial paste to try to keep it stable. It is not long term and this paste will wash out over time and again leave it all open to infection but it is good in the short to medium term....

    Sounds like an option alright.. thanks..

    Sorry to be a pest but will that be expensive? Would imagine it would cost half of the price of a full root canal? Would that be accurate?

    Maybe a third to a half of the full cost... Different dentists will have different policies.....
