Clipped sheep for a lad on Saturday a mix between mules, x/breeds and mountain ewes, the wool was up on them but they had very dry wool. Would these sheep be lacking in something as never seen sheep so dry ?

Only got around to getting my shears yesterday evening in the end after 3 postponements between myself and shearer. Both at hay at different times then wet earlier this week.

2 euro which was fine. Glad to have it done now as heading off on hols for a week so don't have to be worring about maggots and father trying to get them in

Finished my own yesterday after shearing the first of them a month ago, wasn't sorry to see last one running off. Rams were heavier than normal too and one got the better of me 3 times so he was finished standing up!

For those who shear their own ewes, without doing contract work, what type or machines do ye use. Are the cheaper ones a pure waste of money ? Thinking about clutching later in year or shearing a few store lambs.

Have a lister 3 speed here. Dont know how much they are new but priced a new handpiece this year and i think it was over 300 so im sure the wole lot would be over 1000. dont know of any really cheap ones tbh but i think its not really worth the while buying one unless you have a good few to shear.

One of the hand held battery ones might be a better bet for dagging?

Have a 3 gear supershear here for shearing, think whole kit was about 700 all in. I use a lister with motor in hand piece for crutching though, be afraid of breaking machine

How do ya find the handpiece with the motor? Does it seem awkard when your used to the machine? Have thought about getting one but never took the plunge

Handy out for crutching along the run, you wouldn't want to be running for long can get hot.

Got paid for the wool yesterday. 1.30 kg.

At least there was something out if after paying sheares this year.

Does the wool guys collect it from you, or do you bring it too them ?

Sent the wool yesterday as well, got the same as sea12 for the crossbred wool and the wool of the mountain ewes went for .35, nearly worthless.

The wool merchant comes to a few different places here and everyone drops it off to him.

Yep normally he collects it here or in a neighbours yard and everyone drops it to him. But this year I was heading his direction with trailer anyway so brought mine and a neighbours to his yard.

I wonder when the dept will stop farmers moving wool(or storing it). It's classed as hazardous waste once it reaches the merchants yard.

Sheep and Wool production is recognised as the oldest organised industry in the world. don't give the dept any ideas !!!
