Anyone else played this? It's a Japanese indie game a couple of years old that has made it's way on to steam. If anyone has played Cybernator/Assault Suit Valken on the SNES then this is pretty much a spiritual sequel to that game.

It plays like an old school 16-bit game although the graphics are more in line with a high end 2D playstation or Saturn game. The 2D art is gorgeous although the low resolution is a pity. I played through the entire game in the PSP iteration but the PC version is just as good.

There's really not much like it in recent years. There's plenty of indie 2D games but there's very little that really scratches the itch for a no nonsense 2D action game from the 16bit era.

I'm really liking the flood of weirder PC Japanese games on to Steam at the moment, I heard yesterday that Higurashi, on of the best visual novels ever, is coming to Steam with a new translation.

Oh, missed this one. Will add it to the list, cheers Retr0gamer.

There was another Cybernator-esque game released earlier in the year too, Gigantic Army, but I've not had a chance to play it yet. It doesn't look as pretty as this one though so I think this one can jump the queue.

Gun hound is a lot better than gigantic army IMO.
