Same as Savile. The weight of public perception was on his side, and he used his position to cover up his crimes.

Young victims are very easily intimidated, especially young girls who are often indoctrinated with the belief that they either did something to deserve it (dress, drinking etc), or at least didn't do enough to avoid it (taxi instead of walking, avoiding being alone with men etc.).

Kids are easily threatened and made believe they'll be thought of as liars while their idols are believed.

I know but my point was the other women who were gropped like in the articles that were posted. One was a well known public figure but didn't speak out but can't be named.

My childhood was a lie. I loved RH on Animal Hospital, I would have never in a million years suspected him of being a sex offender.

    Who's next? :(

Agree - I thought this one was a mistake too. Apart from him generally appearing as "a nice enough bloke", that Tonya Lee doing all those interviews didn't sit right.

Then his daughter coming to court with him everyday. That must have been grueling for her - I can only imagine - and now they will have some conversation, unless she knew all along ??

His wife will not have a mind of her own, a man like that can control those closest to him easily. She will believe he is innocent unless he says otherwise.

    Channel Four news:
He never once lost his temper in the witness box, even when he was denying the most disturbing allegations of abuse. He would laugh and joke with the jury. At one point he even started singing for them, giving them a rendition of his hit song Jake the Peg. He also demonstrated the sounds of his famous wobble board.
Even before the verdict was out, people were writing about "I'm Jake the Ped, kiddie fiddle diddle dum". You have to say that the overcoat in that performance doesn't do him any favours.

Liberace met Scott Thorson in Hollywood in 1975 when Scott was just 16. Liberace was 56, a 40 year age difference.

If she believed he was innocent while hearing the evidence then the decision of the jury isn't going to change her opinion at this stage.

Yeah, I don't think there is any suggestion though, that Liberace was a predatory, paedo like Rolf Harris. Totally unfair to try to link the two.

I suppose, since it was their word against the lovely, grandfatherly Rolf Harris, whom nobody could ever suspect of being a sex offender, that they felt they could be dragged through the mud if they went public.
They'd been through enough, and you see enough suspicion aimed at similar victims here to understand fear of being thought liars or opportunists on top of the trauma.

What's your opinion, is it possible for a teenager to have a consensual relationship with someone older?

Yeah, that's called grooming a vulnerable child.

An email from the daughter to Harris was read in court and it suggested that her primary aim was to inherit as much money as possible. It was suggested that her "support" was insuring that her inheritance stayed in tact. That fact that he has now been found guilty opens the door for a string of civil cases that could bankrupt him. I'm sure the legal costs he has incurred will already put a serious dent in his finances.

Here is the text of the email sent by Bindi Nicholls to her father Rolf Harris on July 25, 2012, with the subject line "dad...a few questions?":

"Hi dad, (this email is between you and me, please don't pass it on to accountants, Bruce etc...) Since the whole thing around the house in Dorset I've been pretty churned up, as we all have been!

"Thank you so much for being so supportive etc...I really do love you guys with all my heart and couldn't have chosen better parents. I wouldn't change the past either, it's all been perfect, because from that I've got to here, and I couldn't feel more loved by you two!

"One of the reasons we looked for a house by the sea was that we were under the assumption that after talking to Elaine and Jenny and the advisor, we had had the go ahead to buy a holiday home, that we could rent out most of the time but we could use too. (In "we" I mean you, mum and us three), they said we couldn't buy another property just for us lot to use, it had to be commercial because of tax purposes, so it's very confusing to us when we find this very property and it's a massive NO?

"Also on another meeting Elaine had also said you have around 11 million and can be relaxed and have some fun with it in this part of your life instead of worrying! This is what both Craig and I remember from the meetings?

"With my therapist I've been trying to work out why I always feel so confused by all the stuff around money etc... I think one thing is because you haven't really made a decision about what YOU and mum want...in regard to me and money... In regards to me (your only child), I find it confusing that really I'm not that interested in money or driven by it, I don't want the latest shoes, cars, blah blah blah, I'm not trying to be an "it" girl, really I'm just living quite simply and wanting to do my art work and spend precious time with you guys and my family, these simple things make me very happy! (I am YOUR daughter after all, you understand that I know!) Craig's very similar...

"Firstly I understand that I am sole inheritor of your estate - is this true? If I am then I feel you both have to sit down and discuss your feelings or beliefs about this inheritance:

"* are you intending to carry on as we are and leave me your estate when you both pass away?

"* are you intending to keep enough money for your guys to live comfortably and put the rest in trusts for Marlon and I, so we get an income from the trust?

"* If I am going to inherit this money, I need to be part of the running of the company as it will be my responsibility in the future? It's a massive responsibility that I need to understand and feel empowered by and part of...

"Also on an emotional note, please imagine how it is for me...I still feel guilty about spending any money, asking Jenny for top-ups of my account etc etc, and yet figures in millions are being talked about willy nilly, I stress about spending £2,000 on a holiday, or taking a holiday with three of us or framing pictures or getting casts made blah blah blah or buying art materials, it feels ridiculous in regards to the amount I "might" be inheriting?

"It's like being told that you might be winning the lottery at some point and you get excited and dream about the things you 'could' do, which is quite natural, anyone would feel that! On top of that, the accountants keep saying yes to projects then saying they didn't say yes, which keeps me feeling humiliated and confused! The bottom line is, what do you guys see happening in the near future?

"I think that in order for me to feel safe and secure I need you both to grow some sort of solid stance and strong opinions about your beliefs, about what you want to happen with your stuff, with your hard earned money, what you want your life to be like from this moment? What is important to you? What do you want for your grandson? for Buzzy and Erin? for Craig and I? For Akua maybe? This is important stuff!

"When you are gone we are all left with the aftermath of people fighting over stuff, I'm left with Bruce and Elaine (and you know how they feel about me!) and I'm alone with it all...Do you want to write letters to people you care about etc etc...do you want to give people things before you go? How do you want to be remembered?

"Please you don't want people being left confused, angry, upset and fraught with sadness and grief... Please take this seriously or you are leaving ALL these decisions to Bruce and Elaine...

    "Love Bindi and Craig xxx"
    .

On the other hand, it seems pretty logical to become a children's entertainer if you're looking for kids to abuse :/

Sad isn't it? No wonder some parents feel they can't trust anyone, I can't say I really blame them sometimes.

Because of guys like this gaining and using a position of access to kids to abuse them, the vast majority who work with kids and are normal, caring people, are left in a shadow of suspicion.

I have to say this one has really thrown me.

A few civil suits will ensure she has no inheritence to worry about.

Yeah, talk about fretting. Love the bit where she says she doesn't care about money. :pac:

I think the email can be interpreted either way. Sounds mostly like she wants to know what'll happen in the future so she can plan accordingly.

Could be made to sound grasping pretty easily too though.

Yes, and that she wants to have a say in the running of the company now so she can safeguard what will be hers when her parents die.

If I tried that with my folks the local cats home would rightfully get the lot.

I'm always of the opinion that you should plan like you're not getting an inheritance. Anything else does seem, well yeah, grasping. I always find it distasteful. Just me though.

I never "got" inheritances. Your parent's responsibilities are to feed, clothe, love you, and put you on as best a road as they can as regards education.

To even expect to inherit something that they have worked all their lives for seems really self-entitled.

Stand on your own two feet and make of your life what you will.

Reading that somewhat passive aggressive email shows up what sort of person she is.

Think of the lives these two creeps actually ruined. There are people out there that have to live the rest of their lives after being abused by these two men. We just watched them on the telly and thought they were nice.
