Shamelessly stealing some random person's tweet

''Along with Lebron James, over 87% of NBA "fans" exercise their option to become free agents as well''

LeJon's ego couldn't handle him being out of the news so he opted out. The next few weeks will be crazy.

I for one see only one logical place for him to go........Indiana.:D with Born Ready, Melo and sure throw in Biggie and Tupac in for the craic.

si.com is down so he's already achieved part of his aim to break the internet with this news. My reaction can best be summed up by this:

Enough already LeJon. We're all tired of your decisions.

Wasn't sure what Lebron opting out implied, twitter to the rescue...

@HowardBeck: "Very simple formula in Miami: Big 3 opting out gives Heat cap flexibility they need to upgrade roster. If none opted out, no cap room."

@PFlanns: "LeBron opting out isn't a surprise. What is interesting is the apparent lack of a unified front from him, Wade and Bosh."

@justin_halpern: "LeBron opting out is like when Scarlett Johansson gets a divorce and every loser thinks they have a shot."

    @jonahkeri: "She's a little undersized for a stretch 4."

@justin_halpern: "either way, she's never ****ing Cleveland."

It's gonna be a little awkward if Wade and Bosh don't opt out now.

Him opting out is a clear call to Riley telling him, get me the players to win another Championship or I'm off, nothing more or less.

Its possible Lebron is opting out so a contract with the heat can be restructured and they can add to the heat for next season

If Bosh and Wade don't opt out in the next day or 2 then he is gone plain and simple. All three must opt out and restructure there contracts or it is all she wrote for the big three. This will be a very interesting few days.

In more important news, Swaggy P has opted out also. Kind of expected it, he was only set to make 1.2 million from LA if he opted in but he showed this year he's worth more. He'll be back in LA if the price is right but I doubt it will be though.

I can't see Wade opting out tbh. Wade just isn't gonna earn anywhere near his current salary in a properly renegotiated deal. He also knows he won't get paid elseware. I think a team would throw a large enough contract at Bosh though as a second man on a team.

I just wrote a feature article for Pundit Arena and mentioned that very point about Wade that is very true. I argue in the piece that LeBron is underpaid which I know sounds stupid, but give it a read if you don't understand my reasoning. http://www.punditarena.com/basketball/comahony/why-lebron-james-was-right-to-opt-out-of-miami-heat-contract/

The Dallas Mavs are about to acquire Tyson Chandler and Raymond via trade with the New York Knicks, reports ESPN.

OMFG, Knicks on the verge of trading Tyson Chandler(damn) and Ray Felton(yipee) to the Mavs! Jose Calderon, Dalembert and Shane Larkin going the other way. Just breaking, still trying to process this, thoughts to follow.

Losing Tyson is a blow, but he wasn't able to stay on the floor for a lot of last year. Getting rid of Felton is worth doing summer saults over, the worst starting guard by a mile in the league. A necessary evil it seems for the Mavs to take on that contract. Larkin is very promising, and Jose is an excellent offensive talent. Dalembert is a very solid rotation player and will help if held onto.Don't think he will be staying, Apparently Dalembert has only 1.8 million guaranteed so the Knicks can wave him and free up 7.6 million in cap space.
I presume this trade is the signal that Phil is now going to overhaul the roster, and try and clear cap space for flexibility in a last ditch effort to keep Melo. A

Shump out the door next, watch your back JR!

Salary dump mode for the Knicks, how about a sign and trade with Melo and Boozer :pac: In all seriousness, it might not be a bad idea and could suit both parties.

The Knicks have got the 34th and 51st picks in tomorrows draft too, good stuff from Jackson.

I always thought Calderon was underrated when at the Raptors, just had terrible teammates. Likewise in his few months at Philly. Played very well and shot the ball excellently from beyond the arc. He's a brilliant teammate and character too. I might pick up his jersey for next season as I really do like him as I said :P

Really liked Larkin whenever he was on the court for the Mavs last season. Small in stature, but a bulldog of a character.

Dalambert is a solid pick up too.

Chandler is great, but injuries are picking up with age. Can understand Mavs wanting him back though as they want to make a full tilt at the Championship now. Cuban is an eejit for not paying him a couple of years ago though.

    Felton is.. Felton.

I agree on Calderon, he really is a pure point guard, a poor mans Steve Nash if you will. I remember the TBJ guys had a real love hate relationship with him(when the show was worth listening to, gone to the dogs since they joined NBA TV, one presume they are just being censored to within an inch of there life. What made the show great was the informal, chatty nature, where Tas could go of on tangents whenever he wanted and being genuinely hilarious. Losing the drops and running gags was another crushing blow.)
They always praised him for what he did for the team offensively, but killed him for his woeful defense. If Melo stays, that will be 2 poor defenders on the floor, without even the other positions considered. It's a worry, but all in all, I am happy that we have Jose, and he is certainly a big upgrade on Felton.

Were the picks acquired as part of the trade?

Felton is no loss at all, a fit Chandler is an excellent player but agree that no point hanging on to him.

Would love to hang on to Shump, getting rid of JR would be nice

I think Calderon's the best player in the deal, especially with what the Knicks need and getting back at least a decent stop gap in Dalembert, plus all that other stuff. Would be a pretty nice opening salvo from Phil.

Haven't seen anyone mention it yet, but Melo is planning to visit the Bulls, Rockets, and Mavericks. I don't know how tight Melo and Chandler are, but that trade could have been partially made to lure Melo. A Chandler, Dirk, Melo frontcourt is pretty solid, albeit a little long in the tooth.

I'm not sure who got the best end of the deal in that Mavs/Knicks trade.

Asik to the Pelicans for 1st round lick and cash. Everyone's a winner in this one. Rockets get rid of the (unfairly IMO) unwanted Asik and his contract, Pelicans get a big to free up Davis on both ends of the court.

On the Dallas-NY trade, I'm a huge fan of European players as anyone who reads my posts will know but this is a risky trade all round. Calderon is a very weak defender at this level, whilst given how many games Chandler has missed over the last few seasons he's a risk and certainly not the Chandler the Mavs had a few years back. As others have said, Felton is just an add-on to make the deal work (for NY).

The silly season has started! Expect lots of it in the next few days.
