EDIT: Does anyone know if it's possible to buy a wifi card for a Sony Vaio, in Dublin, and if it's easy to do myself?
    Thanks.

Might be simpler to buy a usb wifi card.

Just used amazon for example purposes

You may know this already, but just in case. A lot of laptops have a switch like this which will disable WiFi:

If you have accidentally switched it off, it may be a simple case of flicking it back on.
