RTE really missed a trick by not having a simulcast stream in the studio with the lads' expression as this shíte goes on.

Some of those lads with the football helmets on looked like they'd been told they'd be shot if they screwed up.

Why is every opening ceremony for any sports event (World Cup/Euros/Olympics) like this? Always a big load of rubbish with silly costumes and dancing with poor old George Hamilton reading out the nonsense script that all this crap supposedly represents.

Just start the football, I seriously doubt there is much crossover among fans of football and contemporary dance (or whatever this stuff is).

He sounded VERY stiff and awkward at the start of this as opposed to the Champions League Final ceremony. I suppose this is a longer gig to strap in for.

Jennifer Lopez? Brazil has quite a rich musical culture of its own, why was it necessary to get her to do the song?

I will give you that, the London Olympic's ceremony was the exception, a celebration of British culture and it worked. Why can't this be a genuine celebration of Brazilian culture? That would be interesting... but J-Lo and Pitt Bull? This is junk.

This is so rubbish. Bring on the paralysed lad in the exo-skeleton, and get on with things properly then.

in fairness the Olympics are more known for their opening ceremonies than the World Cup. We'll see what they give us in 2016!

Also, not a tit to be seen!!! I still fondly remember the opening ceremony to Italia 90. Bless those Italian designers.
