ITV Gold?

    Found this article on the Mediaweek.co.uk site.

    I wonder will we get any of these proposed channels in ROI given that we don't currently get ITV2?

    Why don't we get ITV2 actually? Whatever the arguments are about rights issues with UTV and Channel 4, surely there can't much of a problem with ITV2?


    Granada boss announces new channels

    Granada chairman Charles Allen used yesterday’s conference to reveal plans to launch a string of new digital channels in ITV’s latest attempt to regain ground in the digital market.

    Allen confirmed that plans were underway to launch an ITV Gold format, as the first in a selection of new digital services in the future.

    He claimed that a new portfolio of digital services will form part of ITV’s commitment to becoming more “consumer focused”.

    Allen also praised the network’s existing digital brand ITV2 for making a promising start in terms of viewing figures to ITV’s digital offering.

    The announcement is seen to reflect a return to confidence within ITV, following its disastrous ITV Digital venture which was eventually shelved last year.

    Baffled???

    Granada almost = ITV
    Granada Plus on Sky = almost ITV Gold.

    So is it really a second Granada Plus channel?

    In UK on Freeview, ITV2 is free.

    On Sky in UK it is part of Family pack as Sky gave a "Discount" to ITV to get them to put ITV 2 on Satelite.

    "We" dont get ITV2 in Family pack for same reason presumably that we don't get ITV at all on Sky. Or similar reasons.

    Which aren't just rights.

    Granada does NOT want TV3 viewers watching UK Television esp. ITV as it reduces TV3 adverts value without increasing UK ITV value.
    (TV3 = almost the ROI region of Granada)

    As I understand it, if the merger takes place, ITV Gold would replace Granada Plus.

    Well if it were going to replace Granada Plus (which is usually a poor channel except for the occasional rerun of Hale & Pace ;) ) I would assume that it remain part of ROI Family Pack

    if ITV Gold was a rename for Granada + i would be surprised if we didn't get it. we have ITV News
