Rent Allowance and Working part time

I know there is a change imminent about working a certain amount of hours with little effect on your RA but as it stands at the moment whatever you earn is deducted from your RA euro for euro

I could be wrong about this so best keep calling them until you talk to somebody who knows for sure

All your income is added together (OFP, FIS and earnings) and the disregards applied. It's done on a rent supplement calculator.

Here are the steps:
1. Get your total gross income.
2. Subtract PRSI and reasonable travel expenses to work
3. Subtract €75
4. Get 25% of the balance and subtract this.
5. The figure you're left with is your 'assessable income'.
6. Take the last figure from the appropriate SWA rate for your circumstances (€215.80) and add €30 (your contribution towards the rent).

The final figure you end up with should be your weekly contribution towards your rent. Remember to multiply by 52 and divide by 13 if your rent is calendar monthly.
