New rod help

    hey I got a new sonik 12ft 3lb carp fishing rod, just wondering would this be ok for doing the odd bit of mackerel fishing off howth pier or off the low rocks thanks

    Keep it to a max of 3oz and dont be lifting strings of macks up any height and you should be ok. Just give it a good wipe down after every use as the salt might corrode the finish pretty quick as it will be designed for fresh water.

    I'd rather buy a cheap 9ft/10ft mackerel/sea rod.

    I'd find the 12ft very awkward off the pier, and would rather keep the 12ft Sonik in good shape. Mackerel bashing can get messy!
