When I heard that 20GB of storage space is "only" 0.99$ a month I managed to fall for it too, thought it was cheap, such clever marketing :P

Then I realised that for 1$ more you can get 100GB from Google!

However, compared to Apple's current cloud prices this is a massive improvement.

I'm sorry you read my posts that way but I'm definitely not anti-Apple at all. I'm very much the opposite.

well looking at it as some who moved to the samsung galaxy S range (having used both jelly bean and kitkat) in january, i will be buying the iphone 6 for ios8!

Some good stuff there.

Particularly excited about the photo app. Timer, exposures, focus settings. All welcome. New filters and the option of having third party ones available from in the app sounds great. Should be a big leap coupled with the iPhone 6 camera

I like the cloud storage concept of leaving only a slimmed down version of your shots on the phone, though cloud storage is STILL too expensive. I just bought a new (backup) portable hard drive for less than €50 which would cost $50 a month if you had that much storage online.

Widgets? Apple seem determined that iOS doesn't deviate from its tried and tested homepage. At this stage I wish they'd grow a pair and at least let devs have a crack at doing something interesting with it.

For me I got more than I expected with this update. I'm a Mac and iOS user and there's plenty of features and refinements to keep me excited. Particularly liked the handoff and continuity related features. The messaging and calling from your Mac being particularly interesting and useful.

A few features Android already has but then again I'm sticking with iOS for a reason, today certainly reminded me why. The past two developer conferences have been two of the biggest for me in recent years. I just hope they keep the hardware side of things interesting, they certainly have the talented people to make these amazing things that have been rumoured for years. The last hardware release that had be properly excited was the iPhone 4.

I'm pretty pleased with the per app battery usage and third party keyboards.
They were the only two things I missed from android.

Just catching up now after watching the keynote. Coolest thing = answering texts and phone calls from the Mac. Anyone know if that's over wifi or Bluetooth LE?

There's already two apps that do this (it's over LE Bluetooth).

Phonebox - http://getphonebox.com - which allows you to record calls (currently not operational in Mavericks, but due to be reinstated in next release) & HandsFree - http://www.tunabellysoftware.com/handsfree/ Which works the same way but doesn't allow recording.

Yeah, I was familiar with one of these but I don't believe my Mac supports Bluetooth LE, which is why I wanted to know. Oh well, I might have to buy a new Mac...

I did for iPhone 5s and am in a mess right now as, although it worked, subsequent restart provoked activation again, which has failed throughout the night.

Going home now to see if I can sort it connected to iTunes.

PS: For those like myself who are interested, iOS 8 supports the Irish language as a system language, though far from fully implemented yet.

Running on an iPad mini now, no problems so far but unless you're a developer don't expect there to be too much of a difference over iOS 7.

The Apple developer portal but I wouldn't recommend it unless you're developing Apps for iOS 8, there's really not enough of a difference for end-users to make it worth the risk.

I jumped in with both feet last year and downloaded the first beta of iOS 7. Not this time.

Maybe later in the summer when the crashy bugs have been ironed out.

Yeah same here. I think 7 was just such a dramatic change we all wanted to try it out so bad. Just not the same enthusiasm coming for 8 but it will be a decent upgrade come September. I'm more looking forward to trying out Yosemite!

iPhone 4 will be stuck on iOS 7.1 from here on. To be fair, the phone is 4 years old and already struggles to run iOS 7.

The big news there is definitely the developer tools. Apple has really kept developers on-board in a big way for iOS.

I always hear developers complaining about the Android SDK compared to what's available for iOS. Apple's whole approach is keeping the development community on board and keeping the iOS app store stocked with a really good range of apps. Android has a huge volume of phones out there but the fragmentation (umpteen different versions of Android running and umpteen different phone specs) doesn't really make development and prototyping that easy and the development tools aren't as good as they could be.

Looks like OS X will also become a little easier to develop apps for and while it's a really minor one, I like the ability to switch the OS to a dark theme. Only the Apple pro apps did that in the past and it was quite jarring to go from say Final Cut to Finder and the menus suddenly go from dark grey to quite bright. I know it sounds silly, but if you're editing video or working with colour balances it really matters a lot as it causes your eye to adjust to the new colour scheme.

Windows by default does stuff like that too which is kind of annoying. At least Apple are thinking about photographers, designers, image and video editors.

I'd suspect they're keeping their hardware launch for autumn in the run up to Christmas major sales push. Although, I think without a larger format phone, Apple are shooting themselves in the foot badly. There's no way I'd buy an iPhone 5S at the size of screen it has. It's just way too small!

4 years wow, it's ancient :rolleyes: I suppose the Ipad 2 will not support ios 8 either.

It does run iOS 8 but that will be the last it runs. What Android phone released in 2010 is running the latest version?
