Which is more important - VDSL cabinet distance or Exchange distance?

    Hi lads,

    Fairly quick question.

I currently have ADSL broadband, my exchange specs are:

    Max speed 24Mb
    NGB :y
    LLU Exchange : y

I can achieve about 9Mb with Magnet 24Mb package (€36.99 a month), I'm about 1.25km from the exchange (straight line)

The entrance to my estate has a VDSL cabinet, which would be less than 200m from me.

If I got VDSL would I get close to the theoretical maximum as I'm close to the VDSL cabinet or would my distance to the exchange be a bottleneck? (Potentially a very noob question :P)

I was looking at Vodafone Simply Broadband Max (€35 and up to 100Mb) as an option.

Distance to the VDSL cabinet is all that matters in most cases * so yes you should get close to the maximum speed. They should be able to tell you what speed your line is capable of before you sign up.

    * There is an exception to this for a small percentage of people. There are some people who maybe directly connected to the exchange rather then a closer VDSL cabinet, due to cables running in the wrong direction, etc.
