because of the lack of remaining evidence it was impossible to get a conclusive result, and we can’t make a best guess in these rare scenarios.

    Isn't fire just super handy?

An Opel commits suicide, burns itself to a crisp and you can deny liability based on zero evidence.

You've got something right. If a car is going to top itself then it may as well wipe out any evidence of neglect by the manufacturer.

It's funny though, There's a number of known Insignia suicides of late...... That's a lot of "Customer misuse"

I chuckled to that as I read it

    Quick question.

Is it a good idea to take a loan for a car? Which would be €1500 - €2000.

    Nope.

Yes. However if its your first loan stick with credit union loans.

Very manageable and encourage saving. 2k over two years = 20 a week or so and if you go about it right you have 700e saved so in reality you only owe 1300.

Plus you can pay a tenner a week extra off if pre emping a change.

Great way to budget and you arent locked into a strict payment plan and the car is yours to sell from day 1.

Also if you opt to pay by direct debit this is a great way to build up your credit rating.

Jaysus, I had no idea this problem existed, and to think I almost bought one last year! Fine looking car all the same.

Sorry Opel Ireland - but I find your companies approach to this situation a bit poor to be honest.

Are Opel disputing the Consumer Show assessors views last night - suggesting that the fault in the car featured last night was related to Power steering type fault.

As well as the points made on the show that Opel sent out a Bulletin to dealers in relation to a power steering related issue on some Insignias???.

    Are you disputing this????.

Sounds interesting, but I don't really understand that €700 savings thing.

I can take out a €2000 loan and pay back only €1300?

The credit union will not give you a loan unless you have at least €800 in a account and you have been saving every week for at least 10 months.

    I guess I don't qualify for a loan then :(

To be fair, they did say that none of the fires were started by the same cause…

Our Insignia never went of fire (despite all its other flaws) :P

They said that yes, but they are trying to avoid a liability.
I despise the style of industrial blanket denial like this (similar to the BMW timing chain debacle)

So I can only get a loan from my bank, right?

I don't even have a credit union account.

6 weeks and 25% of loan value savings in Newbridge Credit Union.

What is the most common song an Insignia driver plays in their car?

    The Prodigy - Firestarter!

So I test drove this an hour ago:

    http://www.carsireland.ie/detail.php?ad_id=1062173&r=s.php%3Fm%3D10%26o%3D87%26r%3D2003%26g%3D0

Big Nasty was right, a massive difference between this and the SE I tested last week.

Car was sitting on 1 Triangle, 1 Continental, 1 Vredstein and 1 Bridgestone :pac:

Almost full service history, mainly from Murphy and Gunn BMW in Dublin:

    20140514_145004_zpsc6f744e1.jpg

Interior was pretty immaculate bar the radio display has the pixel problem, not too pushed on that though.

    20140514_144646_zps54a71b99.jpg

Exterior was largely in great condition bar some small scratches and what seems like white flakes or stone chips on the bonnet.

Advertised at €3,250 but with the pixel problem and small bodywork issues I think it could be picked up for sub €3K.

Not in a position to buy now but if it's still there around August/September, which it may well be due to the mileage it's probably the car for me.

No, they're just saying the facts point to the fact the fire destroyed the evidence so therefore all other facts are fiction.

They've CLEARLY presented the FACTs as FICTION and as they see them and you should accept them. Anyone who says different and attempts to present logical and independent views is clearly WRONG.

I've spoken to a friend in their Luton head office who has told me this is being taken very seriously.

Looks pretty sweet man. You'd have to consider new rubber too. €2.5k is enough for it I reckon. ;)

The tyres were pretty good but obviously they're not matching. Will wait a bit and see if anymore pop up.

Is that every credit union or just Newbridge?

Also back from NCT re-test and failed on Lambda reading. The dipetine brought down the emissions but not by much so it's not a miracle worker or anything which was kinda to be expected. I drove in 3rd gear for half and hour on the M6 at 100km/h, revs were at 4,500rpm, it felt weird even driving at that speed I was still over taking some drivers, mostly trucks.

But back to the Lambda reading, I should have spotted it was high the first time and thought there was something up but didn't seems obvious now. I could change the lambda and run it through again but I don't think I will I will have to go to the professionals(mechanic).

Did you drive it on for an half an hour before the test. Not much point in driving it hard a few days before the test. The engine needs to be well up to temperature before the test. My dad had an mgf as a weekend car a few years ago and it failed on emissions and we replaced the car and it passed. Now whether it was the car that was causing the problem or not is another thing. Put a new car will hide emission problems well in most cases anyway.

Do you mean cat not car?

Also the emissions passed it was the lambda reading that was high so it could be just the lambda sensor is faulty or a bigger problem.
The lambda reading is not a gas but a ratio of air to fuel in the exhaust. An ideal lambda reading is 1. This means that all the fuel entering the combustion chamber is being burnt. In reality, cars are usually minutely rich or lean or varying between the two. This is the reason a variation of 0.03 is allowed on either side of the ideal ration of 1:1. A common misconception is that if your car fails the NCT on Lambda it means your oxygen (lambda) sensor in the exhaust is faulty. This may well be the case but it could also be the sign of an exhaust leak or another problem in the engine. We are fully equipped in McNamara's to test and rectify any of these faults.

That is something I came accross while searching online.

Yep I meant cat damn autocorrect :)
Oh if it passed on emissions then it's probably the lambda sensor alright.
