Put dipetane in the car. I filled half a tank and put half the litre bottle in. And drove the car the fastest I ever drove it 175km/h up the M6. They said drive the car hard so i did. I used nearly a quater of a tank of petrol on my joy ride. As the speedo was going up the petrol gage was going down. I have a quater of a tank left and will empty the rest of the dipetane in tomorrow and drive the car hard again before the NCT. Hopefully I won't use as much fuel before the NCT, as I want some left with the dipetane in, for when they are doing the emission test. Hopefully I pass if not it will be a new cat which will be expensive.

    Hard doesn't mean FAST

It means stay in lower gears and rev it HARDER than normal to heat it up and blow out any crap. Drive at 60mph in 3/4th instead of 5th for example for a few miles.

Although the desired result will have been achieved with what you did :D

Better off putting the dipetane in in the correct ratio too. 1 bottle is enough for 200 litres.

    Saw a 2012 Petrol A6. I didn't think such a car existed.

I was driving her car a few weeks ago and stopped while driving to let a 2012 535i out. She was fairly annoyed that I stopped and kept going on about how rare that car was nowadays.
She just sees bmw badge and year, failing to take into account the difference between a 518d and a 535i:mad:

I told my mother about dpfs about a year ago. Since the octavia had one and said that it regenerates itself when on long trips but it would be no harm to rev it on the odd gear and not change at 2500 revs everytime or not to labour the car so it wouldn't get all choked up. As diesels tend to do if there never driven on. Well somehow she had selective hearing or something when I told her :pac: now she just drives it hard all the time.

I mean it would scare you how quick she can get it to 60mph for a 1.6tdi. Whenever you sit in the passenger seat and say it after been rallied down the road all you get is a sure we don't want them dpf problems. All though she was always a fairly quick driver. And this is the smallest lowest bhp car she's had in probably 15 years or so. She finds it way to slow over talking only reason they haven't changed it for something quicker is my brother is learning to drive next year and the octavia is very cheap to insure for learners.

It's like that for a lot of people, and I find that quite sad.

Shifting down into 1st gear while making tight turns. Two driving instructors told me it was fine (or even advised it, don't remember). There was also some kind of fair or something on my route, the traffic situation was mental. At one point he told me to go down a road where there were rows of cars parked on both sides of a single-lane-wide blind bend. Pretty stressful overall.

Only go into first when taking off when the car is stopped.
What numpty said 1st for turns...2nd for the test, 3rd in real life

And yeah they like taking you down some ****ty roads that two cars can't pass through.
I found driving in rush hour traffic to me the most beneficial. I failed the second time for checking my mirrors too much.

2nd is the lowest you should shift down to. First is really only for taking off.
One thing I would say never drive too slow while doing the test. I was doing 35/40 miles/ hour on the main road while doing mine. Another tip I would give is forget they are there and just drive the way you normally would and don't be too cautious.

Can anyone see a reason why this wouldn't have been repaired during a refurb?

Does it look too deep to be ground down? At £114 a wheel I wanted them perfect.

    A reason?
Yeah laziness. They could have at least bodged it and painted the mark

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,699 ✭✭✭Brian

I would have been perfectly fine with taking the majority of the turns I did in second, but was basically told to do them in first by the instructors. Bit frustrating. Won't do it next time anyway.

Sure that damage wasn't done when tyre was put back on Voodoo ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,670 ✭✭✭quadrifoglio verde

    Hardly lepsons?

They put the tyres on themselves. Looks like rash to me, not a tyre machine mark.

I think it's just the grease they used to lube up tyre when putting it back on!

I seen a A7 today with a god awful spoiler on the back it made the car so tacky looking..
