Little bit of a dig there from Westwood talking about Sean Foley? Said he wasn't comfortable with what Sean was trying to get him to do and is happier with new coach. Suppose he is just telling it how it is.

Yeah surprised at that. Also the wrong person interviewing him. She hasn't a clue.

In the last chance salon, needs a birdie on 18.
I'd rather be in the last chance saloon than the last chance salon any day! :D

    Phil failed where Rory succeeded.

I see one of the top 5 players in the world struggled this week finishing 1 from last. Wonder is he regretting that comment yet :D:D

I'm regretting that comment tbh :)
Just goes to show there's very little happening in golf these days when it continues to get airtime.

Golf needs Speith to win I think, I haven't really been following Tigers injury in detail but at his age, with that swing and back issues.... I actually don't think he'll be around in a few years.

It's all very flat in Tigers absence, com'on Speith, grab the mantel of golfs star, Rory seems as far away as ever from it.

Spieth definitely seems to have what it takes, he seems very relaxed, just needs the experience of closing out a big tournament to kick on from. To be fair to Rory, it's just his putting letting him down now, his driving accuracy is in the low 70% range and his GIR not far off that, just taking an extra putt on each green that's killing him. He 360'd a short putt yesterday and could only laugh at it.

When he gets the putting right, he'll be back. It's just a matter of when.

Yeah Speith is destined for multiple majors and is a breath of fresh air. Like how he conducts himself on the course too. I have to agree with McGinley though and think that, even though Rory isn't getting the results and had a shocking front 9 yesterday, he is not far away from being there and if he gets his putting going, he could be in the winner's circle soon.

Hopefully Kaymer continues his run of form and will be up there come Sunday evening too.

Rory needs to learn that a level par round when you are hitting it badly is ok, this 5 over crap when he is frustrated is very immature tbh.
    Grind it.

The first 7 holes have killed mcilroy , +10 there over the last two days. Can't do a thing wrong then on the back 9 !!

That was the most pathetic"mashed potatoes" I've ever heard.

Wow 54 holes without a bogey is impressive but Greg went 66 in 1994

GMaC sunk after a 77 when level after 12. Out in the third group in the morning.

Just seen this on the Golf Channel.

    • It’s been a tale of two nines for Rory McIlroy. The Ulsterman is 9 over on the front nine and ranks 82nd in the field in scoring on that side, but he leads the field at 12 under on the back nine, including 7 under on Holes 16-18.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,471 ✭✭✭big_drive

Ya it's amazing just how much difficulty he's had on the front 9

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,862 ✭✭✭FortuneChip

Fair play to Justin Rose, he hasn't even played the first hole and he's already gained two shots on the field!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,291 ✭✭✭dar_cool

Good to see them reversing the 2 shot penalty, he's right back in contention now!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,733 ✭✭✭SnowDrifts

Didn't get to see any golf last night so not sure what happened with Rose... so officials gave him a 2-stroke penalty after his round before he signed his card and then they wait all night and decide next morning "well actually we are going to rescind that penalty"?? Surely that should have been all taken care of yesterday!

Its a bit of a mad situation, some European tour official called up and said he saw the ball move, so they zoomed in and it moved a hair according to rose, have a look and golfchannel.com

Yeah definitely a mad situation alright. Correct decision in the end but that should have happened yesterday.

I's also funny that the tour official who called in after viewing it close up in HD didn't consider how the new decision 18/4 rendered his opinion irrelevant.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,733 ✭✭✭SnowDrifts

Again funny watching that interview with Mark Russell (the Tour’s vice president of rules and competition) there on Sky talk about how the Rose situation was exactly why they asked the R&A and USGA to implement decision 18/4 (the HD rule) and how it applied perfectly in this case but yet he didn't seem to think that yesterday when he said...
It's not as though he didn't see anything and then it came up because of high-definition television. He saw something and backed off, that's why the high-definition rule didn't apply

He should have just admitted that they got it wrong yesterday.

Rory -1 after 8 holes. All set up for a top 5 finish.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,728 ✭✭✭blue note

Why do they call this the fifth major? Is it because Lee Westwood hasn't won it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,349 ✭✭✭Wombatman

Don't get the Rose decision at all. He addressed the ball and made it move. He backed off because he saw it move. A penalty surely. The rules are for all golfers not just the pros. Hate the way the rules are fudged for them.

:) most events outside of Asia, Europe would be a major so

Rory -1 after 8 holes. All set up for a top 5 finish.

3 birds on the bounce for Rory, 10,11,12...

Heck of a round from Walker right now.

Hoping either Sergio or Spieth win, but if not that, it'd be nice to see Kaymer win this and make a push for the Ryder Cup team.

Nah Rose called it at the time. Sure he called Sergio over about it to ask what he thought. Official calling in is meaningless
