Have looked at crucial.com so can check what is possible to upgrade to but just wondering the following

Is this possible to do on a desktop without static issues (or do static issues only come into it where a laptop is involved)?

The desktops are networked - will this potentially cause any problems or does it matter?

Are you talking about static electricity yeah? If so I wouldn't be concerned. All I've ever done is touch the metal casing before inserting / removing any cards, RAM etc. Never had an issue.
