Motorsport is not a big thing in Ireland, its a total shame.

Do you remember us winning the A1GP? I was ecstatic and then totally dismayed when the news didn't even report it!!!

We have huge names now across the globe.

I remember this being the run where the world went holy ****.

Darren McNamara (Now in FormulaD) when he was a relative nobody, drifting in Silverstone against Kazama (A drift God) in his famous Kei Office S15. Darren as far as I can remember had about one third of Kazama's power.

The whole place went mental with who is this chap that just put it to Kazama :D

Drifting is one of these things that those not familiar with it think is easy but is in fact exactly the opposite.

Especially when you go twin drifting - with 2 cars drifting right next to each other.

Motorsport isn't big in Ireland?? News to me! We have very talented drivers on the top stage, we do quite well considering the lack of money or resources pumped into Motorsport.

Oh and drifting isn't Motorsport :pac:

I follow all of Irelands motorsport from Laverty on the bikes to Smith out in the BTCC Lightning :)

Motorsport is big in Ireland among motorsport lovers, but they never get recognition for any of the great things that they achieve. Where as some random ponce kicking ball around a field once a week is your average household name!

We have fantastic drivers and talent in Ireland, I think you took me up wrong.

    On the drifting thing,

Id'd love to be able to click a button and delete the chav aspect to drifting, but it seems to follow it unfortunately :( For people who love it though its as serious a sport as any in Ireland. I love it for the madness and the unbelievable fun that comes from doing it. I dislike it for the image that everyone around tarnishes it with.

It's on my to do list though, and cheers for the offer - might take you up on it in the future!

Any time man, always mad to go and hurt knuckles, curse and be soaked to the skin :)

There is a huge amount of trust between the drivers, one little mistake and you have no way to get out of the situation when running close.

My dad would be like that. About 2 years ago he seen a gti golf and turned around and said that's a lovely golf pity it's not diesel  I had serious words with him that day :pac: he's not as bad now he's coming around to the benefits of modern petrols specially if you live in towns. In his defense he's been buying diesel cars for 25 years plus so he's not one of the usual sheep who bought one 5 years ago for the cheap tax.

People are always pretty surprised when I tell them the Legend is 3.5. I remember collecting the boyfriend of my girlfriend's friend (from Cavan) in it and he said

"sure wha would ya want ta be paying the tax on a 96 yoke like this for"

    I just grinned and laughed...

Same here with myself, now and again anyone who calls over asks about my car,
"whats the engine like on that?" oh its a 2.3 turbo...."jayyyyysus you're insane for getting that at least you have the diesel to keep you going" ah no it's petrol "lord i don't know what you do be thinking getting something like that"

That was the latest encounter three days ago

I thought Cian was the only other drift fan about these parts!

    You're more than welcome!

This is the track, small and low enough speed so not much can go wrong :)
You must be shítting me :D I've been media at a few years of prodrift, had to cut back due to college workload the last while though.

Was there when this happened though! IMG_9451-1024x682.jpg

Even trekked to the UK for a BDC event last year :).

I'll see if I'm free, bring along my helmet and maybe the photography gear ;)

There all at it. Audi, ford etc, I wonder is there any engineering basis in it for intercoolers and the like with nearly everything being a turbo(diesel) nowadays.

Can't be, pretty much all factory intercoolers are either really small and aren't anywhere near tall enough to be close to the grilles, or are side-mount. BMW ones are usually getting air feed from the mesh between the foglights. Here's the 320d intercooler

Give me someone else's 335i and I'll do it no bother :P

You'll get better air-flow through a big mouth up off the ground though. They seem to be all the time trying to get more performance from less engine. Hard working turbo's bigger air-flow through an IC and better engine cooling is one way of doing it.

I'd imagine it's the other way around. Hot air rises, cooler air falls - won't make a huge difference but lower down will have colder air passing through, there shouldn't be any change in air flow. Lower it is, more efficient it's cooled.

Same for the IC -> small turbo + large intercooler = laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaag + drop in boost pressure. That's why they're really small + recirc valve helps keep the whole system pressurised for minimal lag.

I had the lower grille off the ST dropping it in for paint Monday evening. Was so much more responsive (IC is massive mind) but car seemed much happier

In my head, the bigger and colder the intercooler the less the lag.

Bigger intercooler needs more time to pressurize and get the air through it though = more lag. Also colder won't really do anything in terms of lag, but it should improve combustion efficiency.
