What is the most interesting fact about Northren Ireland that you didn't know?

Northern Ireland tends to get a bad rap on boards, so after seeing all the interesting facts on Dublin, there must be a few ones on the whole of Northern Ireland/counties with in.

One fact I was recently corrected on was that Derry was known as the Maiden City because of the fact the Derry walls have never been breached - my father wrongly told me it was because after the war there were more women in Derry than men.

Another one would be that Austin's is the world's oldest independent department stores.

And that the largest gay bar has a statue of Lenin outside it.

Anyone else got recently learnt facts on here?

    Belfast is an awesome city.

The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the LORD your God.

Briana Corrigan, formerly of The Beautiful South, is from Portstewart. Beautiful town on the Northern tip of Derry, great nightlife and possibly the best place to stay for the Northwest 200. Keep 'er lit, hi!!

Northern Ireland has some amazing places to visit, but Belfast is really not a nice city in my opinion.

I was a massive Beautiful South fan when I was youngin'. Twas my first ever gig in The Point in 1992. I wanted to be Briana Corrigan and always pretended I was her singing with the band in front of the mirror with a hairbrush. :o

Great voice, she has. While we're on memories, I was at the NW200 a good few years back, watching the 250cc two-strokes yowling through the centre of Portstewart on their way out to the coast road by the golf course, and smelling the burning Castrol-R. Local fella beside me says, "Smell thawt, hi?? Thawt's Gawd's fawrts!!" :D

Due to an error in the 1800's when new maps of The British Isles were being drawn up using the Mercator projection Northern Ireland was mistakenly put at the North of the island of Ireland whereas as we all know Northern Ireland is actually in the West of the island when the more accurate Miller projection is used.

Nicholas Edmund Anthony Ashley-Cooper, the 12th Earl of Shaftesbury, aka, Baron Ashley of Wimborne St Giles and, finally, Baron Cooper of Pawlett owns Lough Neagh. All of it, it's all his, the 15th biggest lake in Europe, supplies 40% of NI's drinking water, one lad owns it all.

    Suckers!

If you are carrying euro coins, throw all of them into the street buskers and musicians. Sterling is a lot more readily accepted otherwise.

8% of all money spent in the Northern Ireland economy is on over-sized Tricolours and Union Jacks.

They take that cue from that bronze statue of a man on the plinth in front of Stormont with a stern expression on his face, pointing assertively.
