I just had a look. I've seen that thread before, I tried following that and I think it was for the DNS codes, they didn't work. I tried the Eircom DNS codes as well. They enter fine but you know when you do the internet test, the first part is fine, but the device to internet I think doesn't work.

WEP is fairly weak. WPA is much better.
I actually don't employ either. I just have the wifi unprotected/passworded, and have it MAC address filtered, so only the devices I want to can connect to it. It's not foolproof, but if someone's THAT determined to get onto your network, then very little will stop them.

Same here Damo.WEP and wpa just kept loosing the connection on my network.Completely open and mac filtered is all I use now.

While were at it theres something really annoying me about the Wii u.

Every game I have seems to need you to sign up for a different provider to play online.

Assassins creed needs Ubisoft login. Mass effect is looking for a EA log in.

Im not registered with either and its a pain to set up.

Is there a unified online solution??

Nah, and it's the same with any of the consoles now, that's not just the Wii U.

    How would you do that?

Depends on the router, but most will have a MAC filtering page or option, where you enter the unique MAC addresses of the devices you either want to include or exclude from the network somewhere in the WiFi settings. (Your router will have a web GUI that let's you configure its various options but if you didn't know about it I would leave it alone or at least export or transcribe the current config and locate the Reset button before making changes!)

Most devices will have an option in there network setup section, NIC properties or 'about phone' on android to display their MAC. Its 6 pairs of 2 digit alpha numerics. You can set your WiFi security from WPA or wep to none - maybe do that first if you're not configuring from a cabled connection. Don't want to lock yourself out and have to reset!

Made a huge difference to my Wii's WiFi connection so I left it that way, but bear in mind that every new device has to be manually added, which requires access to a device with a web browser that's already been added or a cabled connection. Seems obvious till you and the missus get new phones on the same day you upgrade to Win7 and find your WiFi dongle has no supported drivers...

I switched over to UPC today. It's like walking from one disaster to another one. Having big trouble with signal completely dropping out. I heard there was a thread with advice on connecting UPC wifi but I can't find it. Does anybody know where it is? I never had this much trouble with the Wii. Surely newer technology should make things easier?

ive heard really really bad things about upc horizon. So much so i had it ordered and cancelled it last minute.

In settings on the Wii U I did a search for providers, picked the UPC connection and entered the password. It is utter cack. It's on WPA2-PSK. Why is it such a pain and completely useless?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,223 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

How did other people connect using UPC?

maybe i need to bite the bullet so and get it. I love the idea of using it to watch sky sports on the iPad.

tempted now after what youre saying but there's soooooo many horror stories about terrible connections etc.

    Horizon Box?

I have UPC here, but not the Horizon Box.
I remember connecting to the Wi-Fi wasn't straight forward. Even a little frustrating, but I can't remember what I did. I thought I may have used the instructions I linked to in the last page, but they didn't work for you. I'll have a look and see if anything jogs my memory.

I'm tempted to get the three wiimotes above but my OCD would be annoyed not having a 4th as a set. I know they could release another on but I dont think I could deal with it if they didnt. So Nintendo release a Bowser one or something so I can go get all 4.

    They look really cool btw.

Anyone who registers mk 8 before July 31 will get a free game from a choice of 10 to download

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,223 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

Overall it's good news about the MK8 Direct today. Shame about the voicechat but it's great that we get a free game.

A little note on the Mario Kart direct today. The music they showed performing for 'Moo Moo Meadows' was beautiful. I don't really take huge notice of game music, but I can imagine playing that level just to hear that.

Wasn't that the one that sounded like Irish music? It all sounded good.

Ya that's the one, took me by surprise but actually suited it really well.

The first prototype of a NFC figurine which was shown at an investors meeting. Iwata has said a lot more will be revealed at E3. Apparently the figures will be used across multiple titles and multiple platforms, both Wii U and 3DS.

    I thought the 3DS didn't have NFC?
They better put a bit more care and attention into this than they did with that abortive Pokemon Rumble game.

BTW, if you're not already doing it, start crossing your fingers that this has nothing to do with Smash Bros!

    From Here - http://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/en/library/events/140508/04.html
    34.jpg35.jpg
We are calling the figurines by their development codename, NFP, which comes from “NFC Featured Platform” and “Nintendo Figurine Platform.”

What is especially unique about NFP is that it is not classed as an accessory product of a certain software title but as a platform itself.

And it has been designed to be compatible with multiple software titles for Nintendo platforms.
In other words, the figurines, which consumers can buy and collect, are going to work with multiple software titles to be released in the future, and we are aiming to develop more software titles compatible with the figurines.
Nintendo has a lot of well-known character IP that has originated in video games, and we have been regularly releasing titles from game franchises that make use of this character IP. This is why I believe a brand-new type of platform will be born when the character IP becomes compatible with NFP.

NFP has a writer function as well as a reader function, so it can not only tell what character figurine is on the Wii U GamePad, but also a compact amount of data unique to each game can be written into it and read from it. That is to say, you will be able to customize your NFP to raise or train your own Nintendo characters, for example.

Could be a nice little cash cow for Nintendo. My nephew is mad for Skylanders (he has over 30) and I can see this going the same way.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,120 ✭✭✭✭Star Lord

    Super Smash Bros Melee intro:

    Coincidence?
Especially as this NFP is to be released around the same time as the new Smash Bros on the Wii U...

Damo, are you suggesting that Nintendo invented Skylanders 2 generations ago and did a Nikola Tesla on it (ie didn't patent the idea and then talked about it a lot in public)?
