router is a wndr3400 netgear dualband router.
its doing my head in, any advice would be great,
    thanks,

Is WPS actually enabled on your router? It's viewed by some as something of a security risk so is often disabled by default. You'll need to access your router's configuration menu to test this.

You generally have to press the WPS button on the device, in this case your sound bar, first, and then press it on the router within a certain time frame, in my router's case a generous 2 minutes.
