Deferring Accomodation Payment?

I'm planning on going to NUIG in September and I've already applied and paid the deposit for Corrib Village. Unfortunately there's no way I will be able to afford the first moiety (it's about two grand). The situation we're in my parents just don't have that kind of money available. I'll be eligible for the Special Maintenance grant which would cover the cost of it, but I asked the person in charge of accomodation at Corrib Village and she told me they don't have a facility for deferring payment. What can I do?

You could try get a credit union loan to cover you until the first grant payment comes in?

I don't think that would be possible as I'd need my parents to act as guarantors and due to a recent restructuring of their mortage that wouldn't be possible.

You'd be surprised. I've found that the CU are fantastic when it comes to student loans, especially because with you getting a grant they know you'll have some money to pay something back. Even go have a chat with them.

I'm in the same situation and I just joined the credit union on Monday :) I'm lucky to have a part time job so hopefully I can save a bit before the first part of needed! I Think with the credit union you need at least a quarter or however much you want as a loan already in your account and then they'll freeze that as collateral (I'm not positive)
I'd say try your hardest to get a part time job over summer so that you can go with the credit union but a bank might do it too!
