Used to be a couple of Asians going to our matches, haven't seen them around! Never forget one away trip and all the buses were over booked, the poor chap was not impressed he had to get a lift off one of the Board at the time.

What about that Belgian lad who went to every game one season. Probably 2003 or 2004??

I was in a hotel in Cape Town a few years back. The security guard (Nigerian) asked where I was from, then immediately started chatting about Rovers & Sligo. No Irish connections, just said they were great for the betting

I know two German lads that support Bohs. They also have season tickets with us for Ireland games.

They are football mad. One came to a Leinster senior league game last year with us in arctic conditions in a field to watch Dundalk against Sheriff.

Just out of interest is there or has there ever been a fantasy football league for the premier division?

Yeah, I used to play in an online one a few years ago. Can't remember the name of it.

Yeah there was one in 2010, it was ok. A lot of bugs at the start but turned out alright in the end.

I might go about building one during the Summer if I get the time...

One of the main problems from what I remember was the difficulty in getting the sorts of data that's used in the EPL one. Goals, reds and clean sheets are fine. Yellows, assists and "good performance bonuses" are a bit more tricky and rely on Soccer Republic and Extratime to provide enough coverage. Even if they do, it takes a while to gather the information.

Sticking to goals, reds and clean sheets makes it a bit boring IMO.

You've said there's been German guys over at Tolka have you not? Maybe they were just over for a weekend though. Could have you mixed up with someone else though.

It could have been when the German National team were over actually. Maybe a once off deal!

That's the one, I mentioned alright. Germany played Ireland, and Shels played Cork. I met 2 or 3 Germans outside the ground, who told me, they paid 6 quid for a pint in Temple Bar. I told them, how much a pint is in the Bar in Tolka, and suddenly them Germans came in bus loads :D

Cawleys blog on Dundalk Pitch and Easter Derbies.

Good idea on the derbies, seems to have annoyed Dundalk fans re the pitch tho.

Passed by Uefa and Fifa every year for past near 10 years, also has been passed to hold Europa league games

As for his comment about it not been look after properly (which he has since admitted on twitter he got wrong) why bother saying stuff that he didnt know if true?

Neither of which make it a good pitch.

Whats up with the teams playing so many games in such a short space of time, 8 games in 24-25 days is a joke to be honest.

Most Clubs wanted a 40 week season to pay players less, Some clubs now paying players over 52 weeks so pointless now.

The clubs voted to have lots of midweek games to make the season shorter so that they could give players the shortest contracts possible.

Hardly pointless to the clubs that haven't gone down that route.

Makes no odds as you either paying a player 40*500= 20,000 or 46*440=20,000, its still not a full year so the RSI thing kicks in.

Its swings and roundabouts, the clubs who wanted it now are rich and ones that didnt are now poor.

The fact the FAI regularly use it for underage teams training and it hosts the North East regional Development squads games and training should show that it aint half as bad as its made out

The FAI and good judgement don't exactly go hand in hand. It's a different game of football when played on that pitch and that shouldn't be, whatever way it can be spun with passing regulations etc etc.

You been to Derry, Athlone or Tallaght latley and see the state of the grass pitches they have? Or lack of grass on them!

Poor pitches will come and go, your pitch will always be artificial. Derrys was shocking, but i dont remember it always been like that, and apparently it's improved since.

All the pitches will be better in a few weeks, the sun is on its way :)

    Grass > Plastic.

Never mind the clubs its the fans that its affecting, not many can afford to go to so many games, 3 in a week in some cases. Not only is it hitting us in the pocket its also hitting the clubs with poor attendances.

Chap has history with that, gets people talking about his blog so who needs artistic integrity.

What issue have you with Oriels pitch? I realise it looks bad but it plays perfectley just like any other Astro Pitch (Ciftonville etc...)

Plus the fact we make 30000 plus a year from it helps too

Rest of us dont play on Astro pitches though, thats the issue as you well know of course.

Thats not Dundalks fault is it? Plus since Kenny took over we have a far better record away from home than at home so any "advantage" we get is bull

Id put money on, that many of the teams train on Astro Regularly, I know Drogheda and Athlone do a good bit
