Makes sense. Looks like I'll have to be a bit more thorough if I decide to get a car in the UK.

Why/How are they so salty anyway?

They just use a lot of salt during the winter.
Unlike our councils that leave big buckets of salt by the road but rarely use it. :p

And yeah, I'd sort it before it gets worse.

What would be a fair price to ask for a 2001 Vauxhall Astra (1.4 petrol) that has NCT for another 2 months, has body in great shape, very good tires, good engine and all but needs a new ECU?

Skylines still expensive from japan :(

We should have a random cheap auction car find thread. Something different like Aristos and the like

I wouldn't say a whole lot. Almost out of test and needing an ecu. I'm not sure if it's a big job to change the ecu or if you can get one of a scrap astra and change it over easily. I'd say no more than a few hundredh euros. I wouldn't say there that terribly desirable a car although you could buy a lot worse all the same I suppose.

I like the look of the first gen aristos. Supercharge that V8, it'd be a serious sleeper.

Gotta be a JZ one :)

Gen 1-2 both look great however.

This would pretty much be perfect as its the Vertex edition, apart from high milage and pity it's not a Turbo :(

Fierce stupid question here lads, but the OHs E200 which is automatic wouldn't start today.

Key in, all electric signals on etc, but it wouldn't fire up.

Does it sound like the battery? He thinks he may have left the lights on?

Also is jumping an automatic the same as a manual?

Never having had to do it, I've no idea, and am somewhat wary of the differences.

    Thanks :)

Was the starter motor turning over or was it just going click click click?

Jump starting is the same :)

What happened when you turned the key ie to start it. Did the engine turn over? Could well be the battery. It may have enough power to turn on the lights on the dash but not to turn the starter motor. Or is the the engine turning over.

Sounds to me (because I'm having similar problems) the fuel pump, you'd need to get it checked for fuel pressure first though if theres no pressure it's your pump, is it like this? forgive the cheesy video but that's the one i watched
