€500 quid to fix that right ballpark tbh

Do you recon that would cover spraying and all that. Would they try to remove the dents or fill them I know very little on bodywork repairs side of things I only really have an interest in the mechanical side of things tbh.

lads, the "Here's what I did to my car today" thread has been rehomed. Its now at the top in the DIY section - which makes sense. http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056991213

Try and see if they do PDR to pull the dents out, it's gonna be €400 in most places atleast to spray both panels though ill bet

Filling should always be a last resort

Bags. Maybe you can get a matching boot door from a breakers?
It doesn't look that bad in the pics though.

It is actually dented though in both spots and back to metal in a one part. It looks worse in reality tbh.

Body work generally doesn't bother me where as if something was wrong mechanically even a small. But with this it will be instead of people saying that's a very clean car which are the comments that have been passed it will now be that's a lovely car pity about the back though which will wreck my head tbh. I might bring it to a few places and see. It's a lot of money to through into body work and I'd say 500 is probably the lower side of the price scale.

    I'm officially an idiot.

Sometime over the next couple of weeks I plan to buy a Mazda RX-8.

Well. That's doomed to failure. But ****it, decent sports car with reasonably cheap tax and hideous fuel bills. And 9000rpm. If the compression isn't ****ed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,830 ✭✭✭✭MuppetCheck

It's a boot filled and bumper painted, 500 is about right for 2 panels like that. It's not all that bad and wouldn't be a hard fix.

Ah I know it's not exactly the end of the world a lot worse could have happened. I'll leave it for a few weeks until I'm off and then I'll decide on repairing it.

Why was it closed in the first place??

Like all major threads and trends on here, the TIDSTMC thread was looked at and its fair to say that it had become an extension of the chat thread.
With the much petitioned-for projects forum now being in place - and with the existing DIY forum also being there, a case had to be made for keeping the thread open.
The thread was temporarily closed whilst we figured where the thread was best suited, and how to make sure it remains one of the best motoring threads.

You could always try paintkess dent removal and some touch up paint on it. I know a good guy in cork if you want the info.

I'd also strangle your old fella:D

yaay and naay car shopping :)

decided regretfully to let the ZT go. super looking car but having went back to view it 3 times i decided it was just a timebomb, that and if i came back again without money the dealer would have blown a fuse. no history, spend at least a year lying up recently imo from analysing the cartell report, 4 brand new chinese ditch finders on it, no history afaik, boot like a swimming pool and a fair few marks on each corner for a car with parking sensors. just coming up on 100k miles it was only a matter of time until **** hit the fan.

unfortunately i'm back looking a 'yotas. fortunately i'm in no rush to buy.

Was he getting annoyed the second and third times?

I know I've mentioned it loads of times, but the grey one up for €1800 in Galway looks a fine thing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,903 ✭✭✭✭Toyotafanboi

He wasn't getting annoyed but he dropped a fair chunk off of his asking price and i'd been over the with a fine toothed comb. i wanted the car, but i couldn't justify the asking price knowing what it (probably) needed. he's better off waiting for the right sucker (or rich man) to come along and fall in love with it's looks etc and look past the financial black hole that it is.

the grey one is a contender for sure, but if i'm travelling that far to view a car i'd want to be lining up a few to view the same day around that part of the country.

    really liking mk1 superbs

this one looks nice and sensible http://cars.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/skoda-superb-1-9-tdi-comfortline-bargain/6725828
whereas this one just looks "superb" :pac: but i'd say it has a drinking problem http://cars.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/skoda/6463323

biggest gripe with the superb is how much or a carbon copy of the b5.5 passat it is

the skoda is probably the only VAG car i'd buy. the others just seem to be more expensive variations of the same ****. you'd pay more for a baseline b5.5 of the same vintage than those superbs which seem well kitted out. i'd say 30mpg is nothing but a dream in the 1.8t auto, lovely car though.

Did you take a knock on the head or has the girlfriend had a different kind if knock?

I think the Passat is nicer looking than those superb's. Id have an a4 before either of them though tbh.

just feel like a change tbh. the starlet was a difficult car to fault, never gave me any real heartache... the only thing i did find is it is very very small by modern standards, even compared to our polo at the time it felt tiny, so now with the new astra on the scene it's been dwarfed. that and the fact that it was coming up on it's third year with me and i just feel like a change. something substantial this time :) nothing particular in mind in terms of jap/ euro, petrol/ diesel once it's interesting and well spec'd.

i suppose it's a matter of opinion but i think b5.5 passats just make me want to die a little inside, something about how poverty stricken they all look, you'd rarely ever even see one with fogs or alloys, at least the skodas have a bit of kit. the avensis fan inside me tells me that a4's go for insane money for what they are.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,830 ✭✭✭✭MuppetCheck

I know they're also over priced but a decent Bora is actually as nice a place to spend time in. Plus with the Golf bits being interchangeable you could mess around until you're happy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,525 ✭✭✭JohnBoy26

I don't think the a4 all that more expensive tbh. Imo it's a superior car to the b5.5 and superb. Everyone has different tastes though :)

I was behind one the other day with a big "Donegal spec" sticker on the back window.

This was despite it being an import with a TS reg:D

They are a superior car to the B5 passat and superb though. Finding a straight up clean one these days is the hardest part.

That's it exactly, good unmolested examples are becoming difficult to find nowadays. Most are coming with that donegal spec these days :D

Went straight through my hand with a handsaw today, 17 stitches. Totally worth not hiring a tree trimmer for an hour. :/ No more car work for a few weeks.
