I have an eMac from 2004 that's running 10.5 which seems to be the maximum supported os x version for this hardware.

It's difficult to get a supported up to date web browser as firefox for example requires a minimum of 10.6.

As it mostly used for basic web browsing etc. What options do I have if any for a secure web browsing experience on such hardware?

looks like ten four fox is an option

Is there anything else i can do to the OS itself to make it a bit more secure?

Secure in what way ? Turn on the firewall, don't worry about viruses, there are none. Update to Safari 5, it's a decent browser.

Not sure about what versions of Flash will work.
