if we're talking 80s here are 2 I've only discovered recently.
CvB I was familiar with their first couple of records (which are great but definitely cross the line into "zany" quite a bit) but this is from the last one they made before breaking up. Great lyrics - "I never called myself a hero for killing unknown communists":
The Replacements are a band I've heard a lot about but never really listened to - this is a great song (more recently covered by Lorde who I believe is popular with the kids):
