    Hi, first time on this.

I went out this morning looking at the cows and calves in the field, to see a nice black limousine heifer calf 3 months old dead.
    Any ideas???

    Yeah, I'd say you're right..... She's dead!
    :-)

Welcome to boards. I'm sure someone more helpful will be along soon :-)

Have a heifer and her eye is sunk in one side and eye lid drupping over it and her ear is fallen on one side too.
She's Eaton her cud but drooling.
    Doesn't look to healthy

Sounds like she's having a stroke. Do cattle get them? ?

Don't let it get you down Greengrass.

We all lose a few. Do the very best you can for them and fcuk it after that.

All I can say is it's better to happen in the yard than the house. While we all lose a few from time to time at the end of the day there only an asset and are replaceable.
Lose a loved one as I know many on here myself included have and they can't be replaced.

Could be anything but first guess would be blackleg or something similar if she's not vaccinated.

you could ring knackery in morning and ask them to have a look at her to see if they see anything unusual, if they havent cut her up already

    Would it be blackleg?

Usual symptom is death. Other symptoms from a Google search, the knackery will tell you if its blackleg:

'Characteristic swellings develop in the hip, shoulder, chest, back, neck or elsewhere. First the swelling is small, hot and painful. As the disease progresses, the swelling enlarges and becomes spongy and gaseous. If you press the swelling, gas can be felt under the skin. The animal usually dies in 12 to 48 hours. In most cases the animal is found dead without being previously observed sick.'

    From the Covexin 8 website:

    'Calves Dosage:
Vaccinated under 3 months of age should be revaccinated at weaning or 4 to 6 months.

before it was actually cheaper than knackery at your local vet lab

however I think now you have to pay for the disposal charge when you deliver the carcass & your vet will pass on the lab charges, so could expensive

think there is info on the dept website , can't find it just now

Jays us you couldn't make a move with out being found out eh. He had some story about last night out in Birmingham. If he's over there for work, he has some life.

    She's on Twitter @AmandaOwen8

Taking an interest con. I thought you were engaged. I'm not sure if she'd be what I'm after myself. She's probably brilliant with the sheep but there's more to life than farming.
