I'm running a football league and I have 16 teams that I want to randomly separate into two groups of 8. They are currently in column A2-A17. I was thinking the best way to do it was to assign a 1 or 2 evenly to column B? any ideas on how to do this?

Use the rand function on excel. If you put =randbetween(number, number) so =randbetween(1,16) it will populate a number. Hit enter 8 times and you'll get 8 random numbers and they can be league A, other teams league B.

Here's random. Order the teams as follows. If any objections you can blame a randomer on boards :-)

    12 v 3
    5 v 9
    8 v 1
    11 v 13
    6 v 7
    10 v 16
    4 v 15
    14 v 2
