Can any one recommend a good syphon to get the best flush? Have an old toilet (flush handle) with old cistern but toilet still sometimes not completely flushing paper away properly. Checked the multiwick and pipe to soil stack and they are completely clear??

I dont think theres any difference between the different types being honest. Volume of water makes the biggest difference imo

Also dependant on your toilet bowl

Hi guys and thanks for the replys, much appreciated.

@cork: I know it's volume of water that makes the difference so that's why I was wondering is there any syphons that can get out more water as there is still a fair bit of water left in cistern after flushing.

@cruiser: what styles of bowls make a difference to flushing?

Some have a tab you take you to make it leave some in the cistern.

See is theres 2 holes in the side if the large part and see is one is missing the bung

Sometimes the problem with a bad flush is a partial blockage between siphon on the cistern and the toilet bowel restricting the flow of water in a flush.
I've often found old bits of plastic or washers in them.
All toilets are designed for a good flush once the water level in the cistern is correct.
The siphon is only to get the flush started.

Have you checked under the rim (use a small mirror) of the toilet to see if its encrusted with lime build up.

We had a problem with a poorly flushing toilet in an old house and this is what a plumber told us to check. Once we cleared the lime build up the toilet worked perfectly.

A 20 litre bucket of water beside the toilet is the best siphon you will ever need

My experience of this is there is usually a problem with the flush handle rather than the flush mechanism,

Contra to belief toilet flush handles should be located at around 10 o clock or 2 o clock but most people place them at 3 and 9.

The second problem is the rod at the end of the flush handle rusts and bends so reduces the flush

The third problem is some of the older siphons come with the option of a reduced flush so at the end of the siphon where it's outlet meets the side wall a little hole should exist with a plug on it. Or missing if not on it, the missing plug reduces the flush.

Lastly if the siophan is old the diaphragm might just be gone inside. This is indicated by constantly having to flush the toilet to get water

Your siophan in your cistern is generally suited for the size of the cistern. If you have a large volume of water remaining after the toilet flushes then it's a cistern problem.

    Flush master syphon

Joey the lips "if you have a large volume of water remaining after the toilet flushes then it's a cistern problem."
What problem with the cistern could there be? There water left in the cistern after the flush but I'd presume this is down to the syphon. The syphon does seem to give a normal flush just isn't getting rid of toilet paper all the time.
@richie: master flush syphon? Does this work for flush handle?

Flush master has kit to change this to push button very simple

Cheers for all the replies lads. Richie I will have a look at that flush master. You say it's easy to change to push button but can you get one for just a flush handle??

    Sorry for late reply
But you get a full kit which includes push button
There is nothing for handle flush but you'll be taking that out for good and the button going in instead
