My last car the Nissan Primera had a full main dealer service history - book wasn't stamped and the uncle didn't keep any of the paperwork - Irish people don't seem to think of 'down the road' - I've a folder full of receipts as well as an excel sheet recording any servicing & maintenacne I do.

Your main Nissan dealer will have all the service history of the primera so the book doesn't have to be stamped.

    How about a Jag X-Type?

Cloth seats and not a great pic of the interior, so probably base spec?

    NCT for 12 months
    €1700

Gotta love irish people - theyd keep the receipt for something they bought for 40 quid from argus.

But not the receipt/invoice for the 700 euro 72,000 mile timing belt service at the main dealer they got done two months ago - that will show the new buyer that the car did indeed have the timing belt two months ago

As I said above, all you have to do in that instance is to get the said dealer to print of the service history from their files.

Also not all "Irish people" are as you describe, please don't tar us all with the same brush. There are a select group of people in every country that are the same way.

    apologies :(

And your right about the main dealers keeping records - I know of a 120,000 mile Renault - where the new owner discovered it had a full Renault service history - from the same Renault dealer that sold the car new - by ringing up the dealer to find out what they knew (if anything) about the car :)

Sad to say the majority of us are in that category unfortunately (present company excluded) - generally wait til it breaks until you fix it & fear of being robbed by the local garage

    - shame really mate recently dipped his car and zero oil in it - "when was this last serviced" - "it was NCTed last year" - that is what you are up against here

Car is in heaven now - long gone - sold it with almost 200,000 miles with a main dealer service history up to 170,000 mls and I over serviced it from thereon out. Original Clutch and Clutch cable still in it (but on the way out)

.....they don't make them like they used to.

It'll probably struggle to sell as its pretty dated - citroens of that era have some niggly electical issues (nothing in comaprison to renault) - mrs is still in her first car 97 saxo - 9 years later - god id be so bored!

having said that if its anything like the saxo - it'll be zero issues

9 years is a very long time for any car, let alone a Saxo. I couldn't stick with one car for that long. I haven't owned a car for more than a year so far, that's why I'm planning something more exciting for my next one. I'd like to keep more than one, but currently I can barely afford just one.

While on topic of Citroens and some electrical faults... I had an '03 Xsara for a year. Didn't have any issues with that at all.

Ah they were niggly enough isues - power steering relay sticking open , etc - standard issue stuff on a 17 year old car - yeah shes pretty bored with it but its pretty enconomic and were looking at a house so it'll do her for now.

I'm nearly 3 years in the MR2 - although its some fun to drive so wil hang onto it for the moment.

Am I missing something with that?

Says bodywork is perfect, but on the pic you can see a mark on the bumper.
Says full service history, but then only shows 2 stamps?

Mondeo is a decent car indeed! The X-type will cost twice as much as a similar Mondeo, so it is bad value for money :)

115hp out of 2.0 petrol is disgraceful.

That's no GTI, its a Trendline.

It's not worth the tax to be only getting 115 out of 2 litre.
I looked it up it's only a 8 valve engine and probably SOHC as well.

    MK2 Golf GTI's had 1.8 8v

And it only produced 110hp untill they introduced the 16 valve version.

Gti had body coloured mouldings and door handles. Those 2.0 were shocking, was a disgrace to have a GTi badge on it
