It is incredibly underwhelming, my friend. While the speed is considerably faster, it comes at the expense of ridiculous issues backed by an incompetent support network. Basically, if you run into a problem with it, don't expect a quick fix any time soon. So do yourself a favour and steer well clear of it.

In the interests of balance, I ordered eFibre from Vodafone on Nov 1, installed Nov 11th. Rock solid 66Mb download, 17Mb upload, "unlimited" usage. Cheaper overall phone/BB package than I had previously. What's not to like. :D

Should i get Eircom fibre or Vodafone Fibre?

It's the same fibre infrastructure (eircom's). Make judgement based on cost of overall package and your view of the customer service.

I got eircom eFibre on 2nd Jan. Very disappointed. Performance is worse then the standard eircom BB I had previously.

The signal is intermittent. I know this because, while watching Netflix, I have to reboot the modem at least once every hour. This did not happen before the change over to eFibre.

Has anyone else noticed similar performance?

You've got a problem with the line between you and the cab most likely. Get onto support to have it checked out.

What's a cab? do you mean the exchange?

The technician checked it while he was here and said it was fine. Tech support will probably say the same. I suppose it's worth a try.

I'd be interested to hear if anyone else is having similar problems.

You exchange is now in the cabinet on the road. A lil green box. It shouldnt be behaving like that so eircom will be willing to fix it. Worth a call.

The fibre installers are just KNN contractors, dont put huge faith in what they say.

Efibre is a great product, I'm in an area without upc so it was the only upgrade path available but it makes a huge difference, particularly the upload speed. After an initial issue with a faulty modem my connection has been rock solid and speedy for about 5 weeks.

however, although the infrastructure is technically Eircoms, you are still at the mercy of your particular provider with regards backhaul and policy. There's a thread somewhere detailing magnets crazy evening throttling policy, another one somewhere for smart / digiwebs brutal backhaul problems causing terrible peak time speeds. Your best efibre options look to be Vodafone or eircom who have plenty of backhaul available and are effectively unlimited in terms of traffic.

Does it take long to get installed and is there much to the installation process? How long does it take to get installed from the time you put in the phone call to eircom?

Ordered ours today and installation is next Tuesday. That's as a business customer. Not sure if it'll be different for residential.

business customer have a much shorter installation wait than residential customers. but also business customers tend to spend more money on bband and phone services

I had a business DSL line from Eircom running at 2Mb down and constantly dropping. They initially said I was not in a fibre area but I was according to their maps. Turns out I was over a certain distance from a green street cabinet and they have only started (in the last few wks) to include lines that are further from the cabinet for fibre.

Anyhow I've gone from 2mb/256k to 23Mb/6Mb with a solid connection. No complains there. Just wish I could get this speed at my house....

The only issue is Eircom has made a balls of our billing on our account which is stil unresolved months later..... Seems one dept. in Eircom doesn't talk to another. Not surprised TBH.

There is not much to say. If it's available to you and UPC isn't, then it's crazy not to get it. I have it a few months now and it's been rock solid at 50Mbit down/20 up all the time.

You'd want your head examined to be within 1km of a cabinet and not get it really.

Daughter ordered eFibre from Vodafone Monday last week, modem arrived the following day and tech arrived on Thursday to install NTU and switch to fibre. It's a rented house, new customer, 70Mb down. What's not to like:)

    Ah makes sense now....
    http://www.independent.ie/business/technology/thousands-of-eircom-customers-to-be-hit-with-bills-of-up-to-500-30154589.html
The bills comes as Eircom failed to collect direct debits from around 30,000 customers since the beginning of the year.

Having been on the bad service side of Eircom for quite a while (what, with being so far from the exchange) it came as a pleasant surprise that with E-Fibre installed, I was getting the maximum speed (70mb - 20mb). The people who say it's sh*te can say so because it may be true for them in their situation but all one can really do is give it a try or talk to the neighbours if they have it and see what the story is for their location.
