anti virus blocking downloads

had computer fixed afew months ago with microsoft security essentials used as anti virus. having difficulty downloading files getting message virus scan failed .As these are from safe sites how do i iturn off antivirus, or has somebody got a better idea thanks in advance

Is there any other antivirus/security software installed on the machine? If there is then you could be running into a conflict.. If there is then you will ned to unistall that program to get security essentials to work properly.. Or the other way around....

For example you could have AVG antivirus,,, you would need to disable or uninstall security essentials for AVG to work properly. Hope that helps you.

open the program, settings - Real Time Protection - untick it - Done.
