Wow, that's not very nice, overweight kids don't have a chance nowadays. Huh!

They sit at home on the computer and eat...."fat bastards"
They go out and do a bit of exercise...."fat bastards"

That cycle has to break, otherwise there will be fat bastards everywhere.
    I wasn't serious!

I used to be called the Milky bar kid. :(

    Bastards.
At least you're a boy (I think). A girl I know used to be called The Milky Bar Kid. Right into adulthood too.

Overweight children were swimming, swimming is exercise - perhaps what you saw wasn't the problem but an attempt at solving it?

The solution to excess weight is a healthy daily diet, not half an hour of swimming per week.

Doesn't "obese" imply even bigger than "fat"?

I still don't see that many overweight kids though. I don't share the same experience as people who say the streets are crawling with really fat kids. The fact the OP was shocked by it implies it's not actually that commonplace. Not saying it's not a problem, but it's one that's blown out of proportion IMO.

You must be from the posh part of town where the class system prevents the little bastards from getting fat :D

Why do we have to use "obese" or any other word to dodge saying "fat",is it for fear of labeling people or something

Isn't calling them obese labelling them aswell?

And yeah, obese is worse than fat.

Why do people get all annoyed at fat people?

They make us normies look amazing by comparison.

    Thanks fatties!

Its the age of the two working parents thats the problem. Aint nobody got time for cooking or exercising with the kids.
I live just slightly above doing it rough to stay at home with the kids. I see everyday in the park they are more advanced better behaved and are in much better shape than other kids.
Their parents may have a nicer laptop or more channels on sky with the extra work but is it worth it?

I do agree but....... kids by their nature don't know when enough is enough of anything weather it's computer games or cans of coke.

I'll bet money a can of coke is about half the price it was 20 years ago- we are being flooded by cheap sugar.

I was in the cinema 2 weeks ago and saw a lady spending about 60 euro on half a dozen kids between jelly's, popcorn and a bucket of multi colored candy floss each. My daughter asked for the candy floss and I had a look at the back- it had a massive list of ingredients with about 8 'E' numbers with the actual words-
'May cause attention deficit in children'! I **** you not.

How do you know that the swimming classes weren't part of getting them healthier, aswell as a healthier diet?

It just seems a bit weird to point at something and claim it indicates that there is a problem, when the situation that you're pointing at is directly related to countering the very problem that you're trying to point at.

I dont buy that though tbh...takes twenty minutes to whip up a pasta bolognese/stirfry etc send them out with a football while you prepare and join them while its cooking or after dinner!!?

Shouting 'fat arse'. That'll teach them.

You know as funny as this, calling a person fat might be the only thing that actually stops them from becoming that way. I hate the word obese

    Fatty treats for the fatties

*Boink* (This a was Little Britain joke i think)

Was in the swimming pool today when a group of school kids came in for swimming lessons, all boys aged about 10. I was shocked that at least 40-50% were quite seriously over weight.

It's hard to remember what it was like when I was that age in school (over 30 years ago). I can only think of 1, maybe 2 heavy kids.

The S**te you she kids eating today is shocking, having said that it's no surprise when you go into a convenience type shop- nothing but cheap surgery crap on sale, and offers to beat the band!

I don't know the answer but as a country we are heading for trouble:(

I dunno. We all ate a huge amount of ****e when I was a kid. Sweets, bars, chipper for lunch, crisps and coke seemed to constantly be in everyones hands. But was the same deal, fat kids were the exception. Have kids stopped moving as much by quite a bit in the last 20 years?

(I can't believe I just asked if kids were doing the same thing 20 years ago when I was a kid... just realised I'm an old person there... well... this sucks balls.)

No cowboy suit but I've left a few people walking like John Wayne, does that count?!

Erm....eh yes I think it does if youve saved them from a life of obesity with your em milky bar...

On the upside of course, the fatter the kids are, the more difficult they are for all the paedophiles around every corner to pick up and run away with them!

Yeah two parants getting in at 6 are going to be doing that. You might but generally they arnt. They are tired they throw crisps at them to keep them quiet. Its dark at that time for half the year. Somebody on minumum wage has been minding them most the day who thinks pasta and bolognaise sauce is healthy. They dont get a packed lunch made for school they get a tenner. Thats how its gone.

The solution to excess weight is a healthy daily diet, not half an hour of swimming per week.

the solution is a combination of both. Being totally sedentary is not good for you either.

All you need to do is ensure calories in (good diet) <= calories out (exercise)
